EXCEL: Apply formula to entire column

To get back to the initial question, it's a matrix formula that you want.
- Select the entire column C
- write your formula, but if you reference a value in another column, also select the entire column
- confirm your formula by pressing shift+ctrl+enter

In this case, your formula should appear like this:
{=DATEDIF(A:A,B:B,"y")}
the { } appear after confirmation, you shouldn't type them.

You go to the cell containing the formula in the bottom right corner of that cell, your mouse pointer then turns into a black cross. Just click and hold down the button, then "drag" it to the adjacent cells and release.

I had the same problem and I was just shown another factor to take into account.

I simply had to go to "Options", Calculation tab and check "automatic". For me, it worked!

or by macro. I suppose you will copy the formula for the first column (column A) (just like for the other columns and rows).

In the Office menu, go to the Developer tab, click on Record Macro, name your macro, okay

Select the starting cell, for example cell A1, type the formula, place the mouse pointer on the bottom right corner of this cell until it transforms into a cross, click and hold the left mouse button then "drag" to the adjacent cell (cell A2) and release.

---> go to the Office menu, Developer tab, click on Macro, select your macro and on the right choose "Edit"
In the VB code replace:
Range("A1:A2") with Range("A1:A1048576")

Close the VB editor, go to the Office menu, Developer tab, click on Macro, select your macro and on the right choose "Run"

That's it.

* If you have Excel 2007 you have 1,048,576 rows and 16,384 columns, otherwise reduce the number of rows (1,048,576) according to your version.

to copy a value, for example the content of cell A1, you copy and select a range of cells and paste, the value is copied across your entire range

for a relative formula example =A1+A2 and copy from this cell select your range and paste
