GTA 4 for Windows 7 Solved/Closed

Question

Hi,

I downloaded Windows 7 to test it, and so far it isn’t going too badly (yes I know it will be very criticized, especially by those who haven’t tested it, but I like it). And I have a first issue (yes it’s still Windows, that’s for sure):

I want to reinstall GTA 4 (before I had it on Vista), and when I install it I get a message, "your version of Windows is not compatible with the game."

So, my question is simple: do you have the solution? Or if you’ve had a similar problem, did you find the solution?

It has to be installed in Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode, hoping it will help you.

This is what I did... and nothing works for me... I’m looking forward to the next beta with anticipation... and especially the RTM version ^^  I wonder anyway where the nice words from Microsoft have gone: "Windows 7 will offer better compatibility with programs and components..."

Hi,  You need to back up the Rockstar Games folder (Documents and Settings	on_pseudo\Local Settings\Application Data\) indeed, as well as the XLive folder (Documents and Settings	on_pseudo\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft).  I think if you don’t have both, it’s game over.

Hello everyone
I started into the Windows 7 adventure
I downloaded both 32 and 64 bit
I installed the 64-bit (my first 64-bit run)
the installation on my Asus M70VM went very smoothly, with a few more drivers than Vista, I didn’t need to install most of the drivers. Windows Update updated some of them.
I then installed GTA 4 without any difficulty, and the game runs much better than on Vista 32
so Windows 7 Beta 64, suits me!

Hello Opium ... that means (well I think) that your card doesn’t handle 3D to be sure download Everest and paste the report or you run it and you type dxdiag you go to the Display tab and you check if your GPU does 3D

Well, I set it to XP SP2 compatibility, and when I launch the game it tells me that SP3 or higher is required.

I set it to SP3, the game launches but after the two Rockstar Games logo animations Windows tells me that the program has stopped working and it closes it.

After enabling SP3 mode it still says there are compatibility issues :S

Hey hello everyone! so here I am, I bought GTA 4 yesterday and I have a few small problems. According to the site that scans your PC to see if the game configuration passes, there would only be one problem and that would be Windows 7.. so I have a few questions... here if you could help, that would be cool I'll give you my computer configurations. Hello, so here’s my problem I installed GTA4 on Windows 7 without any issue but my problem is when launching GTA4 it shows me a command window plus an error message telling me to uninstall SP1 or higher of Vista even though I’m on XP I’d like to know how to solve this problem to play GTA 4 without it running on XP SP3 I tested all compatibility modes it still talks about Vista please help

I just installed patch 1.0.4.0 and when I launch GTA in XP SP3 and XP SP2 compatibility mode it shows me a nice error message:  SecuLaucher:failed to start application. [2000]  thanks in advance

I reinstalled the game and patches 2 and 3
the game starts but I have a new error when the Rockstar logo appears:
"Unable to create a texture display" 
"please reinstall DirectX and/or the latest drivers for my graphics card"
and Windows returns
my PC is new so the drivers are up to date and I installed DirectX 11
but nothing works...

Hello, edlepicier summarized my problem exactly! I don’t understand why GTA IV forces patches so much to save even offline!!!.. and then I’d like to play online!! New Windows 7 user, I’m faced with this problem with no solution for now it seems...  it crashes after the two writing screens with patch 1.05, it says "language change, please wait", and there, I’ve been waiting since last night (so 21 hours of patience, that’s a bit much!!!)  Has anyone already contacted Rockstar about this?  Any possible workaround, or even a crack? Help Help Help!!

Thanks Wanakill! risking looking like an idiot... explain the process to me, because of course I have GTA IV in Original, and I only find fully downloadable versions + the crack... and it weighs about 13GB... then can I find (with your help lol) only the crack in question, does it work on an original version after reinstalling patch 1.0.3, and above all, can we play online with this patch, because for my part, I finished the game, and I shred online...

In my opinion, it’s your problem, and playing on a laptop doesn’t improve things either.

I have a laptop with a quad at 2.00 GHz (so 8 GHz, I know you don’t add GHz like that but it’s to show), 4 GB of RAM, and an ATI HD graphics card at 2096 MB. GTA lags!!!

On my desktop with a dual at 2.33 GHz (so 4.66 GHz), 2 GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA 8800 GTX at 768 MB, the game runs perfectly at 1920x1080!!

So in our opinion, 1.6 GHz in dual is not enough, especially on a laptop. I don’t know if it’s due to heat dissipation not being optimal on laptops, but even with a quad GTA lags on my laptop.

Hello everyone,  I also have a problem with GTA4 since installing Windows 7. Indeed, when I launch the game it tells me that Rockstar Games Social Club must be started on the computer so ok I’m going to install it but during the RGSC installation it tells me that my operating system is not compatible so RGSC does not work with Windows 7 ?! Uninstall everything!!! GTA and the Social Club   Reinstall correctly by following my posts in this thread.  And GTA IV runs very well on Windows 7, just need to install it correctly.

Buy a laptop with a quad-core, 4 GB of RAM, and a very good graphics card. I recommend Asus, HP .... I have the HP dv7-2170ef, it runs GTA 4. Or go for the XPS at Dell (but beware, it’s a real behemoth, no battery life and crazy hot) Otherwise move to Seven, Vista is dead.

To modify compatibility, simply right-click on your game launcher, go to Properties; then go to the Compatibility tab and finally check the box that allows launching the program in compatibility mode for XP SP3 or Vista SP1, I think. It depends on some games. there you go @++

Hi, I had the same problem; just open the game DVD, then go to the GTA IV folder. Find the Setup, right-click > Properties > Run as Windows XP2 or Vista. Restart and the installation begins. Tchüss!

Well I managed it with Win7 64-bit.

I set in the compatibility for the game’s Autorun: Win XP Service Pack 3
And in the compatibility for the game shortcut on the desktop: Win XP Service Pack 3 as well.

I have a "shield" that appeared on my game launcher icon on the desktop but it works.

However, after installing the patch, the game no longer starts. I’m playing without the patch..
It’s still unlikely that today it’s such a hassle with games, but oh well.. at least it works.

Try the other compatibilities if Win XP Service Pack 3 doesn’t work. Computing for me is completely illogical so you have to try everything.

So, there, guys, I’m going to tell you something. Huge. From all the crashes, failures, and so on in IT, I learned quite a bit.
First, on every GTA from GTA LCS onward, we had a file called "d3d9.dll". We could put it in GTA SA to increase the game’s performance. This dll is actually called Pixel Shader, or Swift Shader.
It allows the graphics card to stabilize. If it’s missing on your PC (Windows 95, 98, XP SP1, 2 and 3), some games or programs will require it. GTA4, for example. There are several versions of Pixel Shader. If your PC is not very powerful, go for the versions between 1.4 and 2.0. If it’s a beast of a machine -> go to 2.9.5. Versions below 1.4 are named "d3d8.dll". But here’s the catch.
First, versions below 2.0 are hard to find. And the worst: from 2.0 onward, it’s paid! So: download the 30-day trial, or crack the full version with µTorrent. An error described as "fatal error, d3d9.dll error, d3d*.dll error" means: Pixel Shader is missing!
So now that you know how to do it, go ahead...

OK, Rockstar is already at patch 1.6.  I have Windows 7 64-bit and: - at first, nothing happened after the Rockstar logos appeared (and the invitation to study US trademark law) - so I loaded patches 1 and 2, and then it asked me for the Social Club password, then nothing - I then loaded patches 3 to 6, and it crashed after launching the '.exe' (launch splash window) - I reinstall patch 3, and now it connects to Social Club, can’t start, and connects to Social Club, and still can’t start, connects to Social Club, ....  1- why and how to pass to SP2 or SP3 compatibility, while Windows 7 64-bit works for others?  Which patch should I install? All of them? Restart patch 3 again? ....

I have another problem with GTA IV. My game runs for 5 minutes and then the monitor goes into sleep mode, my screen turns black and the computer shuts down but I can’t press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to return to the task manager. 1) right-click on the GTA 4 icon

2) click Properties

3) Go to Compatibility

4) check Run this program in compatibility mode for
Windows 7

there you go you can now play GTA 4 with ease :)

Hello, I have installed GTA 4 Complete Editions on Steam. I did all the updates but when I try to play I’m given my activation key. I copy it and then go to the game without logging in. The game launches and afterwards I get a message "press Shift+Tab to dismiss this message" and underneath there is my activation key, but when I press Shift+Tab nothing happens and the screen stays black! I would really like you to help me, I don’t know anything about Steam and I paid for this game and I know GTA works because the other expansions work! Please reply as soon as possible because it’s really getting on my nerves!!!
