fatal error with The Sims 2

Question

Hello everyone  when I launch the game the sims 2 I get the following message "fatal error. The application will be closed" if anyone has had this problem please give me a solution  Eric

I too have been experiencing this issue for quite some time with the message "Fatal error the application will be closed."
I have tried a lot of things, namely:
- Installing drivers for my graphics card
- Uninstalling and reinstalling
- Deleting files in the Downloads folder
- Installing patches that fix bugs
- Increasing virtual memory

But nothing has worked because today I still cannot use the game.
However, I had completely removed the downloaded files from the Downloads folder and the game was working, so I tried to add them back gradually and I think that some downloaded files do not work with the game.

Same on my computer. In my case, the problem was the following:
It is a compressed file (.zip) that the installation program could not decompress. I tried to copy this file "manually" to my hard drive, but CD3 of The Sims 2 is defective.
I obviously lost the receipt, so I would have problems getting it exchanged.

Same problem for me, but with the added issue of insufficient virtual memory.

Maybe we should head in that direction (increase the RAM...).

My friend too: She was installing The Sims 2 that I lent her and it showed a fatal error. Without adding anything, she tried again 10 times and with no success. After that, she tried placing Sims in another bigger folder, and that worked for her. But for some, all it takes is simply to restart their computer when it says "fatal error."  -Joannie1791

I had the same problem 2 days ago and I tried everything. I bought the Sims 2 magazine and it said that once a month you should defragment the disk. To do this, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter, then click!! Next, click on Defragment: it takes quite a while, but then the Sims 2 will work again!

Hi  I had the same problem but I had to uninstall my The Sims 2 and reinstall it I still had a fatal error...  So I checked if I had space on my computer I defragmented my hard drive and cleaned up my files  but actually I was told that I needed to remove downloads from downloads  so I went from 3864 downloads to 2610 and now I have no problem  See you later and good luck!!

I add that to solve this problem, you need to find the faulty file and remove it from the Downloads folder, after that, the game should work.

I also have terrible issues with The Sims 2 and yet I don't have many downloaded files (600). Before, when I had my computer, it worked very well, and now that I've changed... fatal error problem. Well, you remove it from the Downloads folder, so it will end up in the recycle bin and you just have to delete it from the recycle bin and it will be completely removed from your computer and therefore from the game!  Good luck...

I also got a "fatal error" after some downloads. The items I had downloaded previously started flashing blue, and the fatal error message appeared saying the application has to close. I then deleted all the Sims I had just downloaded, but my items are still flashing blue. The only solution for the game not to crash is to sell the flashing item and replace it with another, and then the application doesn't close, but it's annoying. I think it comes from the houses I downloaded because everything was working fine before.

Well, for me, it's the first installation of The Sims 2, fatal error right after the first title screen, nothing downloaded, clean XP, reasonable disk space (20GB), 2GB of RAM (Samsung), GeForce FX 5500 256MB graphics card and a decent processor (2GHz), but on another PC that has half the "power", no problem after installing the patch...  What to do? Set the PC on fire and build a new one?  Best regards...

Since its release, actually!) that you could download houses, clothes, hairstyles, furniture, etc. .. Which I did! I read everyone's responses, so I’ll share them again in hopes of helping a few: - You need to delete all your downloads, so delete the Downloads folder - Add more memory - Defragment your disk (accessories -> system tools -> disk defragmenter) - Or reformat your computer xD. I had multiple issues with Sims 2, but I sorted them out!!!

Firstly, for those who encounter the fatal error when starting the application, I ultimately resolved the problem by completely uninstalling the game. I went to the official Sims website and went to the help section, and I managed to get help from the technicians! Yes, I swear! But they could only respond to me in English, so I had to get help from someone who was better than me... They directed me to their help section that explains how to completely uninstall Sims (not just through add/remove programs). Once I did that, everything was resolved like magic!

However, be careful, the game requires a fairly powerful computer, and when installing from the game downloaded from the internet, often the NoCDs are not compatible with Windows Vista... So for those who have Vista and can play without buying it, you are lucky, but some won't be as fortunate as you. For others, I'm sorry, either you find what makes Vista compatible with the game, or you have to buy it, ensuring that the version you have is compatible (ask a seller to be sure! unless it's stated on the game's package) Most stores do not accept returns on software due to copyright issues, and that is understandable... So do not buy it if you are not sure you have a powerful enough computer and that your version of Windows is compatible!

Last recommendation, if you have certain problems after downloading stuff from the internet, you will have to: either completely uninstall your game and do as I will propose next
or find where you installed your stuff and delete them until you find the one causing the problem
Most sites recommend installing them in the Sims download folder and that’s the easiest to find, but some packs install in another directory, and that’s where you need to uninstall Sims
I advise you to install your downloads in folders with the date, so you don't waste your time uninstalling all your downloads...

Hello,  My story is very complicated... First of all, not long ago, the hard drive of my computer crashed. I got another one of 20GB with a 250GB in the background. I reinstalled The Sims 2 with all my expansions and when I opened it, a window appeared saying: Fatal Error must close. It might be because you have add-ons: If you have them in the same file (I think The Sims 2), they are conflicting. Separate your add-ons (one add-on file and one original Sims 2).

I can't separate the addon from the game since I have the DELUXE version on DVD. Anyway, it seems strange to me that the problem would come from there: when I installed it on this PC for the first time, it worked. I reinstalled it, and after reinstalling it, it worked again. I found the miracle solution!

It's very simple.

- Go to the start menu
- Control Panel
- Uninstall a program
- Then look for "The Sims"
- Click on The Sims, then click uninstall.
- It will ask you if you want to keep the backup. Say no but you will lose your houses, your families, the clothes, and downloaded objects. Or, the only way to keep the downloaded items is to copy them to your documents and then put them back. But back to that.
So I said then you wait for the game to uninstall.
- When it's done, restart your computer or your laptop.
- Insert your installation game CD.
- Reinstall & if you kept your backup of downloaded objects, you can copy them back to EA GAMES/THE SIMS/DOWNLOADS.
- Restart your computer (yes, I know again, but it's to prevent your PC from glitching later on)
- Then you play.

Does it work? At least it does for me, since then I have no problems.

Other than that, I don't think it's your graphics card or memory! So don't buy anything!!!
If your game was working before and the message appears, it means the game is compatible with the PC.
If it never worked, then it’s not compatible!!!

I have this problem too, a friend gave me some Sims CDs but when I try to go to a neighborhood, that cursed message appears. Good evening everyone!  I also had the fatal error problem, and I uninstalled The Sims 2, defragmented my hard drive, restarted my PC, installed The Sims 2, restarted my PC, installed one expansion, restarted the PC, installed another expansion, restarted my PC, and launched The Sims 2. It seems that you shouldn't have anything plugged into the USB ports either. Also, try to keep your drivers up to date, and I think it should work pretty well...  Personally, I did all that, and since then I've encountered the fatal error twice, but after 3-4 hours of gameplay. So it's not a miracle solution, but it's not bad...  (It's not a hardware issue either, because people with exactly the same computers don't necessarily have this problem.)  Good luck to you all! :)

I don't think that's the case, I believe you need to add the files in multiple batches & launch the game in between... I don't know if it works for everyone, but it worked for me.

Personally, I solved my problem; if we can call it a "solution," I put in my own CDs and it worked... because initially it was with a friend's CDs that the problem occurred. I talked about it to a friend who simply told me that it was the disc that was scratched! It wasn't the computer that had a glitch! I advise you to check that the CD is in good condition before going crazy on your computer!  Kisses to all!

I have The Sims 2 Free Time and I'm having the same problem as you.
I don't play it often, but not "little" either.
For the past few days, I've been playing peacefully, and then all of a sudden, the image stops moving, everything freezes, there are no movements. Then, a little message pops up saying "Fatal error. The application will be closed"...
So, no matter how much I restart my computer or relaunch the game, nothing works! It always ends up with the same error message! Moreover, some of my Sims have the color of a newspaper, with writings on them: I can't make sense of it anymore! These Sims are: Daniel Simpa and a dog from the Lécrocs family.
If I have to reinstall my Sims, I hope I won't have to reinstall all my expansions, that would be annoying...

you just have to not install the expansions in my sims 2 otherwise it removes everything at the time of choosing standard or advanced, select " advanced " " browse " then choose computer, C:/, ea games and there go to ea games and create folder, give it a name (e.g. glamour) and choose this newly created folder. the game will be placed in the created folder and will not overwrite my sims 2

Personally, I have the same issue "fatal error blah blah blah" but I wouldn't remove my downloads folder because without it, I find it so bland --' it's a shame that this bug happens from time to time, it's really annoying. Only a few downloaded files cause this bug, and finding them would take hours! So, oh well... too bad.

Hello, I’m also receiving this message while I’m creating my Sims. It’s not a virus issue; I have never downloaded files for the Sims. Does anyone know what to do? For your information, I just installed my Sims on my Acer laptop and the compatibility mode is XP. I have all the expansion packs. If someone could help me, that would be nice. Oh, and since I installed my Sims 2, my speakers sometimes stop working without any apparent problems.
