Refusal to add words to the Word dictionary

Hello,
I have looked through the forum, but I haven't found the answer to my question despite the many messages regarding language and the Word correction dictionary. Here is the question:
Often, for reasons I don't understand, I want to add a word to the dictionary while correcting a text, and the corresponding tab "add to dictionary" (right-click on the word to add) is grayed out and non-functional. Can someone explain to me why this happens with some texts and not others, even though the language of the text is always set to French, and most importantly, how to fix it?
Thanks in advance!

    I FOUND IT !! (Word 2007)

I hope this will help someone who stumbles upon this old post! Is that the case?

In the options - proofing - custom dictionary: you choose the language of your dictionary (Swiss French, for example).

Then in your document, when you right click on the word to correct, you go to "Language" then "Set Language".

There, you choose the same language as your custom dictionary (Swiss French) and then click on the "Default" button.

And there you go, it's done. Isn't it lovely... the Swiss!

Safe journey with this verse from John 3:16:
For God so loved you, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

    Hello!
Yes... this is a bit of a dead post... but it's one of the first on Google... so for the next ones:

It's certainly because there is no default personal dictionary set, so:
    - In Word
    - Tools
    - Options
    - "Grammar and Spelling" tab
    - Personal dictionaries => Add PERSO.DIC (Default)

Without a personal dictionary.. it doesn't know where to add the words...

    Good luck!
