Hello,
I've been looking for a final solution for months to disable the speaker present in the tower of my PC. This speaker is used when I listen to music, watch a video... Even when I plug in external speakers, it does not turn off. So I decided to disconnect it from the motherboard. But that also cuts off the sound output for my speakers plugged into the green Jack! My computer is a Maxdata, running Windows XP SP3.
Thank you in advance.

Hello, the topic is dated but I wanted to know, on the contrary, how to make the sound come out of the speaker, it doesn't work without headphones or earphones, thanks.
The speaker of the tower, usually a buzzer, is disabled in the BIOS setup.

Before asking a question.... Have I done the necessary research?
If I don't know how to do it... I will say so!

Thank you for responding, but I'm unable to solve my problem from the control panel. In the device manager, I can't find this H-P. If anyone has found a solution... ;)
You just have to take apart the PC tower and disconnect the speakers. At least you'll be sure it won't work anymore.
Well, it's a bit late to solve your problem, but personally I found the solution in the control panel, because I tried using Ms-Dos, but it doesn't work.
So, go to the control panel, then click on Sound and Audio Devices, then in the "Volume" tab, click on "Advanced Settings", then go to options, and check the box "PC speakers", then there you go, go back to the sound manager, and check the "Mute" box.

After a search on Google (which is our friend :p), I found an article:
"Even if you turn off the sound, MS-Dos programs can still make the internal computer speaker "beep".
This can be annoying.
Here’s how to disable it once and for all.
Type in a MS-Dos window (start>run>cmd):
net stop beep
sc config beep start= disabled
(Don’t forget the space just after the equals sign =)
And there you go!
Your speaker won’t annoy you anymore."
I tested it on my HP tower:
-disabling the system speaker in the device manager: doesn't work here
-the No value for the registry key CURRENT_USER/CONTROL_PANEL/Sound: doesn't work here
-this last method: it works here.
Thanks again!
