Hello,

I want to buy a mini chain and I am told this output power writing 2 X 5 WATT (RMS) I don't know what it means and I would like to know if this power is sufficient for a home party during the holiday season. I want a device that is powerful. Thank you.

Good evening,

No, it is not at all. It corresponds to a medium-sized radio cassette — if you know what that is — thus sufficient to sound a room under domestic listening conditions. Moreover, it should not be forgotten that if you turn up the volume, distortion will be heard, coming from both the amplifier and the speakers.

A decent hi-fi amplifier is about 2 x 50 Watts RMS, accompanied by speakers with the same power, obviously. But you can settle for 2 x 30 W.

It is also important to know that two amplifiers of equal power are not necessarily equivalent, although with non-classical or acoustic music, one may not notice the difference.

In any case, just as one does not buy a TV without watching it, one should not buy a sound device without listening to it, lest one face disappointment.

Best regards.
