Steps taken:

- Factory reset of network settings (LAN) before each configuration attempt ...

- Menu OK
- Setup Assistant OK
- message Wireless network interface switched OK
- SSID Livebox AD42 OK
- Open system OK
- Entry of 26 characters OK
- or Entry of 26 characters, Wi-Fi button on the Livebox pressed for 5''
- Button + (yes)
RESULT CONNECTION FAILURE

What to do? Your solutions?

Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone,

Finally, eureka !!!! I finally have this magic word "connected", after multiple and despairing "connection failed". I hadn't pressed the pairing button on my box.
I am on Vista, with a Sagem livebox, a 26-character WEP key.
I will outline my procedure:
Menu > Network > Wlan > Assis Config > It searches for SSID, and in my case finds my livebox, which is just next to me for the installation. I select it and confirm by OK.
Open system > WEP > If not already done, enter the WEP key (in lowercase, without spaces).
Be careful, THIS is where I forgot a step: press the pairing button on the livebox (reg button next to the power socket, under the box), BEFORE attempting to connect.

Hoping my experience will be helpful to you... Good luck to all!

Hello Illette,
I have a connection problem with the Brother DCP 585CW-wifi, I am trying in vain to set it up with the Alice box but without success. Thank you for your help.

Thank you for this procedure that was helpful to me.
Personally, I hadn't pressed the "right arrow" after typing the last character of the WEP/AES key: the printer didn't take into account the last character of the password and... connection impossible.
Good luck to everyone!

well, I’ve been in the same situation for four days, I can’t connect it via wifi, however, I plugged in the ethernet cable and the usb cable, and I was able to connect it, but not via wifi. If you find the solution, please be nice and let me know, I will do the same on my side
see you+

same issue for me - connection failure every time - when using the WEP key with uppercase or lowercase letters - or using the WPA/TKIP protocol - if you find a solution, please let me know -

Also in the same problem as all of you, no solution on my side either. Moreover, I chose this model largely for its Wi-Fi connection :-(
If anyone has a solution, I'm all ears!!!

Thank you in advance

I did it!!!
I don't know if this will work for you?
My printer was quite far from my box so I placed it right next to my box, did the installation which was successful, then I put it back in its original place and my prints are coming out perfectly via my wifi connection!!!
I hope this helps you @+

Hello, after numerous unsuccessful attempts with the Orange hotline, I finally had a technician come who simply removed the protection from the Livebox. However, he kept the system that only allows registered devices to connect using the WEP key. Since then, my printer has been working perfectly. I hope this helps you.

Hello everyone,
I also need a hand with my printer...
After browsing quite a few forums, including this one which helped me a lot, I finally managed to get my printer to work over Wi-Fi... for 3 days?!!!
Since then, nothing works, my printer is connected to the Livebox (Sagem Orange) but my computer doesn't detect it and keeps all the files I want to print on hold.
The most surprising thing is that when I turn off my computer and turn it back on, the pending documents print during the startup of my computer...!!! In the end, I can only print by restarting my computer?
If you have a solution, I’m all ears, thanks in advance.

OK - no change for me - my Orange live box (Sagem) is just next to it but I can't install the WiFi - I think I first need to connect the printer via an Ethernet cable to the PC - and then follow the CD that came with the printer - under Vista it recognizes the printer over a wired LAN and assigns it an IP address but after that I don't know what to do -
Moreover, I tried the WEP key (lowercase - uppercase = doesn't work) - I tried the WPA/TKI protocol and that doesn't work either - finally, I connected via a USB cable.

Hi,
I'm getting stuck before you... No problem finding the SSID, etc. ... but after entering the WEP key, I can't validate it, the OK button has no effect....
has anyone experienced this issue and knows how to address it?

Hello, I found out where the problem was thanks to Brother's technical support (which is excellent and very professional, by the way). In fact, you need to go into the configuration of the livebox (or other) and set it to WEP. Apparently, during automatic updates, it switches back to WPA, and WPA encryption is incompatible with the Wi-Fi equipment that is encrypted in WEP. Once you perform the manipulation (also on the network connection), the equipment works perfectly. My printer is now connected. Don't forget to also put the Livebox in association by pressing the Wi-Fi button... Good luck, and I hope it works for you.

Hi,

I also tried all the steps but to no avail... so there remains this WEP connection...

How do you configure your Livebox in WEP? Do you configure it on your computer?

Thank you, I will do it when I find the time as I am in the process of creating a company, so there are more urgent matters at the moment.

I can't connect my printer either, I've tried Illette's "trick," but nothing works... I don't understand. If you have any other ideas, I'm totally open to suggestions.

For my part, the problem was that my Livebox was running on WPA and not on WEP, and if that's the case, the printer doesn't work.

I had the same problem as all of you. I went to "Computer" (I have Vista), then to "Network," and I double-clicked on the printer. I followed the instructions and, like magic, it works; however, it is connected by ethernet cable. So I don't know if it works via Wi-Fi... You have to test it.
I hope this helps you.

I don't know if you found the solution to set your live box to "WEP", go to the network manager opening window (the one that opens when you start your PC) and click on "live box" (three options: Web, mail, live box). You will access the box management, click on the "configure" tab, then wireless connection, enter your code ("admin" by default if you haven't changed it). Expand the "security mode" tab and select "WEP". That's it, be careful the "WEP" key must be entered in lowercase and without dashes or spaces on the Brother.

Hello,

I'm having trouble installing this printer.
I'm trying the WEP option, but my Livebox doesn't show WEP as a security type.
Here are the options it offers:
No authentication
Shared
WPA2 - Personal
WPA - Personal (the one it's currently connected to)
WPA2 - Enterprise
WPA - Enterprise
802.1X

I will get rid of this printer soon if this doesn't work!!

Thank you for your help.

Hello,
Contact me by email at the following address, "jige23@gmail.com", and I will give you the detailed procedure in the form of step-by-step screenshots. However, please note that your live box must be configured to "WEP", and Orange has changed its protocol for activating the "Wifi" mode on the latest generation of boxes, which are in the shape of a book and are smaller. Now, you just need to press "1" on the pairing button and not "5" as indicated in the manual. The action is confirmed by a very rapid blinking of the indicator lights. Furthermore, on the printer, you must enter the alphabetical characters in lowercase. This is not mentioned in the manual.
Good luck, you will see, it will work!

I went back to the store where I bought the printer. They managed to connect it to Wi-Fi because the real issue is the Livebox blocking new connections. Since I couldn't unlock it, I put it on USB and I'm done stressing over it!

Hello Julia, it's a shame to buy a Wifi printer and use it via USB! To find the WEP setting for the livebox, I recommend contacting Orange.

Hello,

Although the last response dates back to June 2010, and having faced a problem reinstalling a Wifi printer due to a change of operator (switching from Free to Orange), I would like to share my successful experience.

Operating system: Vista
Wifi printer: Brother MFC-6890CDW multifunction A3+
Orange router: Livebox Wifi Sagem

The change of operator went smoothly and I quickly regained Internet, email via Windows Mail with messages and contacts, as well as TV.

However, regarding the reinstallation of the Brother Wifi printer, I encountered the same difficulties described in this forum. Using 3 computers at home, I strongly advise Wifi printer owners to make the effort to install Wifi for functional and practical reasons.

Based on the principle that both Orange and Brother have qualified technicians and engineers and that the equipment sold on the market meets international standards, and after several failed reinstallation attempts, here is what I propose for installing a Brother Wifi printer:

1 - Keep the Livebox settings; if not, restore the default settings.

2 - Remove all Brother printers (and copies) installed in the Control Panel/printers.

3 - Reboot the Livebox (wait 10 seconds after turning it off) and wait for the complete reset.

4 - Reboot your computer.

5 - Disable antivirus and firewall

6 - Retrieve the following parameters of your wireless network from:
Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center,
On the concerned wireless network (referenced by the SSID) click on "View status"
of the line "Wireless Network Connection (SSID)
Click on the "Wireless Properties" button
Security tab
"Security type" setting (normally WPA - Personal)
"Encryption type" setting (normally AES)
Network security key hidden: This is the security key written on the
Livebox in 26 hexadecimal characters (0 to 9 and A to F in uppercase
only) without spaces.

7 - Now use the quick installation guide to configure your Brother Wifi printer.
Menu/Network/WLAN/Setup.
Select the SSID of your wireless network; if not, choose
<New SSID> and create it.
Click on the "WPA WPA2-PSK" button
Click on the "AES" button
Enter the security key of your Livebox (26 alphanumeric characters; alphabetic characters must be in uppercase) following the instructions in the quick installation guide.
Confirm with "OK"; the message "Connected" should appear.
Wait about 1 minute for the menu to display on the panel.

8 - Install the various Brother drivers using the CD-Rom provided with the printer
After restarting your computer, the printer should be available
via Wifi.

It is possible that with a Windows 7 operating system and a different Brother printer, you may encounter an operational method that may vary.

Hello everyone,
Personally, I hadn't pressed the "right arrow" after typing the last character of the WEP/AES key: the printer didn't register the last character of the password and... connection impossible.
Good luck to everyone!
