@moiHello, I had the same problem as you, but because I have a XP CD and on my laptop after doing several searches I found in the DOS file on the second or third page it asks you if you want to change your drive type, either it is under floppy disk or under CD drive in boot. In the first marked "first" you modify it to "CD DVD" and then you exit and save by clicking on "yes". Then your CD will launch and it will ask you to assign any letter and then you delete your partition to reinstall your CD, which will result in formatting your hard drive and reinstalling Windows XP. And for all the others, thanks for your information which was very, very helpful to me.

Hello, I followed the instructions from yakhousam but the console indicates that "the search for Windows installations has failed." (So I have an error in the command).

Salut à tous le monde, j'ai le même problème mais sur un PC portable. Et dans celui-ci je n'ai pas de lecteur CD, est-ce que la solution de "SAD/40" fonctionne sur mon PC ou non ? S'il vous plaît, aidez-moi et donnez des solutions, j'ai besoin de résoudre ce problème ces jours-ci parce que je suis en train de faire des mini-projets et tout mon travail est sur ce PC.

Please repair the Windows installation

or follow these steps to restore the corrupted hal.dll file:

1) Boot the VM from the Windows installation CD. When the text part of the Setup appears, the commands follow. Choose the repair option by pressing R.

2) When prompted, type the Administrator password. (if you haven't created one, try pressing Enter).

3) You need to expand the file from the CD. The command would be

expand D:\i386\hal.dl_ C:\windows\system32\hal.dll

Replace D: with the drive letter of your CD. Once you have expanded the file type, type "Exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart the VM.
If the expand command does not help, please use this command:

copy D:\i386\hal.dl_ C:\windows\system32\hal.dll
