remote control and HD Freebox box Solved

Question

Hello,
my Freebox remote control is not working anymore... Before ordering a new one from Free, I wanted to know if it's possible that the problem
actually comes from the HD box (like it can no longer receive the remote control signal), knowing that it still works for television reception (and we can change channels, increase the volume, by acting directly on it).

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem with my remote control! You first need to check that the remote is emitting a signal; for that, check if the red light comes on when you press a button. You can verify this by filming yourself or taking a picture while pointing the device at the remote, if no one can help you check. In my case, the remote is working normally. If it’s the same for you, that might save you from buying a new remote!
You can also check your remote on another HD box if you know someone who has one. Similarly, you can try your box with another remote.
Finally, you can always attempt a hard reboot of your box (unplugging and replugging it manually 5 times while holding down a button on the box). This resets your box (but erases everything on its hard drive). Unfortunately for me, this didn’t work! If you find yourself in the same situation as me and find a solution, please let me know!

Hello, I just had the same problem my remote control only worked with the numbers I changed the batteries: same. I did a hard reboot of the DSL then a hard reboot of the HD -still having issues, some functions still didn't work. ...after a few hours, everything went back to normal, it works like before.

Hello,  I am experiencing the same problem with the remote control since 12/25, following a reboot of the HD box. I have changed the batteries, still not working. I have reloaded the firmware, still not working. I tested the infrared emission with a camera, it’s working.  Has a new firmware been made available?  P.S.: I will try to test my box and remote control at a friend's place.

Hello,  I sent a message to Free support, they replied to run the tests you did, then to perform a hard reboot:  To perform a hard reboot of the HD box (television):  * Unplug your box from the power source. * Hold down one of the 5 front buttons while plugging the box back in, and only release the button after 5 seconds.

Hello,  So, I tested it at a friend's place. My remote works on his HD box. His remote doesn't work on my HD box. Therefore, my box is broken. I will therefore request a replacement.  I have tried the Hard Reboot procedure several times, but with no success (Thank you).  For your information: this remains a hypothesis, I connected a Wii console to the TV, close to the HD box. It’s since that moment that the HD box no longer responds to the infrared signals from the remote... Could the IR signals from the Wii controller have affected the HD box???  Talk soon!

Hello, actually, I had done a hard reboot of the Freebox clock, then of the Freebox HD (with the Ethernet cable), just like the first time. Normal operation returned after about half a day (after a simple reboot of the HD, I think).  If your TV is working, it means the box is functioning; in my opinion, try that, and first go through Free's assistance (FAQ), I think.

Hello,  I have the same symptoms as Fcalin. I have a Wii as well as the Freebox HD. The remote control for the Freebox HD started acting up about a week ago. Since then, I haven't been able to get it to work (hard reboot, changing batteries, reconnecting the Wii...) If anyone has found out what the problem was, I would be grateful.

Hello,   After various manipulations   It turns out that the Wii is not to blame.  The problem comes from the IRDA (infrared) of the TV module of the Freebox.  This IRDA module may be defective.  Unfortunately, the only solution is to go through Free's customer service (catastrophic).  I tried sending an email and participating in Free's chat  but honestly, it's really pointless. For the email, they simply send back a generic response (call the premium-rate hotline)  and in the chat, it's a bot (a program) that responds and ends the discussion after a set time or when it doesn't understand.  If you have found a solution to go through Free's customer service, which requires contacting an outrageously expensive hotline,  let me know.

do it like when you received the boxes, with the ethernet cable, hard reboot of the ADSL box, then connect the HD.  try it, then do a hard reboot of the HD,...or several,  that's how I managed to do it.

I'm also having communication issues between my remote control and my HD box. A friend who works at Free told me that there are recognized problems if you have an HD TV, so if your HD box is near your HD box, it's possible that the signal doesn't go through.  Besides moving the box, apparently there is no other solution for now, but personally, with my 1m HDMI cable, I'm still experiencing the same problem.

As for me, my remote control was only working at a quarter, meaning I could only use the number buttons. Before buying a new one, I decided to try everything possible, and it worked. For those in the same situation, here might be the solution to your problem: place it on a bed of coarse salt (with the battery compartment facing up, out of contact with the salt) or remove the batteries and close the compartment, then immerse it in a container filled with coarse salt. I think my remote had taken on moisture, which the coarse salt absorbed. I quickly tested the remote when I got home this evening, and it worked. To be more sure, I'm going to leave it on its bed of coarse salt all evening and through the night.

Hello everyone,  so after the LCD TVs  here's another IrDa issue from the freeHD...  eco bulbs bought from IKEA installed in a column-shaped lamp...  it's amazing, when the lamp is on: the remote works, but it's impossible to enter the TNT channels, the "70x" dials 007, or 077... in short, what a bummer,  and when the lamp is off, well perfect, it works like a charm... :D  so get to your lamps! ;)

Ahhhhhh, the remote control and the HD box from FREE, a great love story....  The problem with the remote control not working has happened to me many times. And I haven't found any miracle solutions...  Here's what to do: - check if the remote control works by looking at the emitter through a camera or phone while pressing a button. You should see a red dot appear. If it appears, it means the remote control works and therefore the HD box is malfunctioning... - do a hard reboot of the HD box  Except that often it doesn’t work (it has only worked once for me), so another technique: unplug the HD box, wait a few hours (overnight or during work for example) and plug it back in when you return. This technique has worked several times for me  Finally, the last technique is to restart or even hard reboot every day and be patient... Last time, I did this for a week and it started working again...  I should mention that I have never changed my HD box or my remote control. I should also clarify that the hard reboot does not delete the contents of the hard drive. You just need to reactivate it and all the previously recorded films are there... (a hard reboot is not a formatting)  Good luck to all those who encounter this...

Another tip in case your Free remote is not working:

Check if there is a button stuck down!!!
For me, the R button (the ear = the button on the side) was stuck down. As a result, no commands were working, and it's very hard not to believe that the remote is broken.

After two days of good and faithful service (!), my remote control stopped working. I simply unplugged the TV box and plugged it back in. After the series of startup messages, the remote control turned out to be functional.

So I had the same problem as everyone else: no connection between the remote control and the HD box,
The remote control is good, tested on a mobile phone, and as we do in the workshop for TV remotes on
a transistor radio in AM (hold it about 10 cm from the radio, and if you hear beeps in the speakers, it's good to go!!
The remedy:
You need to do a "hard reboot" of your box "not a simple one" but a big one, (unplug and plug back in 5 TIMES manually while holding down a button on the box the whole time. This resets your box to zero (but erases everything on its hard drive). AND for me, it worked perfectly!

I just had this remote control issue; I simply pressed the small
black button on the remote control box (grey USB), a sync message appeared when I pressed FREE and AV, and the remote control started working again. This might be a solution to your problems.

I just had my remote control repaired by a Free technician, so I would like to clarify the responses from April 15 and 18:

Phase A: press the black button on the back of the decoder until the TV gives instructions for the remote control and follow them

If the remote control still does not allow you to proceed with the instructions, remaining silent:

Phase B:
1) unplug the decoder (HD box)
2) hold down the black button while reconnecting the decoder
3) follow the instructions (apparently, you will need to press the button again and go through Phase A, which should work this time)
