Question

Hello,

I noticed that in the device manager, a part of my processor "is not currently connected to the computer." In the Processor category, there are 4 identical choices: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2328M CPU @ 2.20 GHz. I know that my CPU is throttled, and that could explain why the last two grayed out options show the error:

"This device is not currently connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect the hardware device to the computer."

But is it still possible to change the state of this "part" of the CPU? Is the "part" of the processor not connected physically or locally?

Hello, when you open the task manager and click on performance, how many boxes do you have at the top?

And how many processor cores? I believe that under W8 you can access it by clicking on advanced task manager.

OK, it says 4 logical processors so the 4 cores are recognized. So it's more of a software issue.

No, that was just a random image on the internet to show what I have. Otherwise, I have 2 logical processors in the Task Manager.

so here are several things to check:
- make sure you have installed all the motherboard drivers, especially the Intel drivers
- ensure that hyper-threading is enabled in the BIOS
- check if the motherboard BIOS supports it; otherwise, consider a BIOS update.

for the IRST it depends if it's a UEFI BIOS or not, in my opinion.
The first thing that matters is to check in the BIOS if hyper-threading is enabled. That’s what activates the virtualization of a second thread per core.
The rest of the updates have no impact on that.
