Problem with EPSON scanner

Hello,

I have an EPSON 1670 scanner that I've had for a few years, and now for a few days, I'm unable to scan a document on my computer; it opens a message: 'file.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close......................... so it's impossible to open 'scan to file' (however, it's fine for scanning on the printer)
I'm on XP
Is it a driver problem or something else, knowing that I've reinstalled the software 3 or 4 times
Who has the solution
Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Same problem as you and so far no solution!
Take a look at all the forums on the net and you will see that we are not the only ones having this issue...
Apparently, it seems to come from the scanner itself as the problem is not with the USB ports, nor the drivers, nor a compatibility issue with Vista/XP/... (to summarize everything I’ve read on the forums...)
I have tried different drivers, the scanner works every now and then after installation, but a few hours later the problem comes back...
The Epson 1670 scanner is becoming known for this issue on the internet, I think the best solution will be to replace it!!!

Hello,

I'm facing the same issue, but I have two computers and it's only happening on mine! My wife's computer has no problems. So it doesn't seem to be related to just the scanner but rather to a software issue, possibly compounded by occasional scanner malfunction signs. However, the problem with file.exe is systematic on my computer. And I can no longer use the shared Epson printer from the other computer. Everything was working perfectly before a crash related to my antivirus that led me to reinstall Windows. (XP SP3) If anyone has a solution (registries?), it would be welcome!

Good news, I just found the solution to this problem. It is a .bmp file from a previous scan that remains in the Epson directories or simply a problem with locating these files. In any case, I resolved the issue by deleting the ESCNDV directory that I found at the following address:
c:\documents and settings\allusers.windows\application data\EPSON\ESCNDV\ES0030.
A check just now shows that this directory is now located here:
c:\documents and settings\username\application data\EPSON\ESCNDV\ES0030
where username is the user's name.
In conclusion, look for the ESCNDV directory under documents and settings and clean it up. In my case, this unlocked the situation.
Good luck.

Thank you snpdu60. There was indeed in the directory C:\documents and settings\my username\application data\epson\ESCNDV\ES0032 (it wasn’t ES0030 in my case) a file corresponding to an old scan. After deleting this file, miraculously it works!
However, there was nothing in a similar path under allusers.
In any case, it is clearly in this direction that one should search, probably adapting the solution a bit for each case.
Thanks again.

Good evening,

C:\documents and settings\my session name\application data\epson\ESCNDV\ES* did contain a file that was blocking the scan to file application.

Thank you for this information.
