Hello, I made a backup of my genealogy with the Hérédis software which created a BKH file, and when I try to open it, the software does not recognize it.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.4

    Good evening
    I finally have the answer
A bkh file is a file owned by the software that created it in its own format. It's a compressed backup file
It needs to be restored to the location where it was created by the software
For example, if we messed up our gnl file, we can restore it
to an earlier date using the bkh file

Open the Généalogie de luxe software
    Click on the file menu
    Click on save
Click on Restore a previous backup
The window where the bkh file is located opens
Select the file and click open
The software asks if you want to replace the existing file
Confirm, and you have restored the gnl file to an earlier date using the bkh file

There you go, I finally know what it’s for
Don't try to open it, you won't succeed
This file is really handy, it's like restoring a PC to factory settings
Two and a half years later lol

    Info on the site

I didn't look for a website in French AND I can provide links but if I have to translate everything here, it's starting to be a lot.

That said, the only important passage is:
To open a backup copy, choose from the menu File > Backup > Restore previous backup.
Backup files do not have the same extension as other Heredis files (.hr7). You must look for a file with a .bkh extension (example: myfile.bkh).

and it's almost in French (open = ouvrir Choose= choisir previous=précédant) and otherwise just copy and paste into online translation websites :-)

I don't know how to do online translation and copy-paste.

Copy-pasting: it is the action of selecting something with the mouse, for example text, once this is done you click on the RIGHT button of the mouse and in the Context Menu you select "copy" (or you do CTRL + C) then you go to the program or window where you want to paste and click at the desired location with the right button and select "paste" in the menu (or you do CTRL + V)

For online translation, some websites on the internet offer online translations, of course, it's approximate but it's enough to understand the content. Just paste in the website's window the words or the desired text in the translation window and select from a menu of available languages "English => French".
An example of a site HERE
Otherwise google is here for you.

Some websites even offer to translate entire pages of websites on the fly.
