Hello,
Main advantage of Linux: the almost complete absence of viruses, no spywares, adwares, and the like...
Another advantage: many software packages included directly with the distribution.
Disadvantage: users accustomed to Windows often have difficulty switching to Linux, usually because they want to find each item in the same place as in their previous OS.

Hello
Linux enthusiasts will certainly give you more details (I don't know much about it myself :) )
But I do know 2 things:
- Linux is free unlike Windows
- There are many fewer viruses capable of damaging Linux than Windows.
But on the other hand, I think Linux is more difficult to get the hang of.

As far as I'm concerned, the advantages:
- no licensing issues to worry about. I have a distro CD, I install (no licenses to pay or illegal cracks to download, just to set up a machine). With GNU/Linux, you're allowed to copy and distribute it, and you're encouraged to do so. Want to let a friend test it? I can give them a liveCD, no problem...
- After getting past the initial difficulties due to changing habits (I've used Windows for a long time), I find it easier to understand GNU/Linux. More.. straightforward, let's say.
- A great flexibility of use. I can't imagine setting up a Web server and aMule on an old Celeron with 192 MB of RAM if I didn't know GNU/Linux..
And the disadvantages:
- it's tough to communicate with a Windows user who can't understand that one can use something else. Well, yes, there is something other than .doc, something other than MSN.. The same goes for some websites, even public services, which demand that French citizens buy Ms Windows. That's nice.
- In terms of games, it's not there yet, even though some proprietary games are ported to GNU/Linux, and some good free games are starting to appear.
- When I have to use Windows, it pisses me off.
