My Xbox 360 won't read games anymore! Solved/Closed

Question

Hello everyone  I'm facing an annoying problem: my Xbox does not recognize the discs when I put them in the drive, as it always says "open tray" even though the game is there... The console was already sent for service due to the infamous ROD, and now I have doubts about the duration of my warranty and possible repairs through customer service.  If anyone has experienced the same issue, or if someone could enlighten me on the steps to follow for customer service...  Thanks in advance Best regards, Captainfalcon92

I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM OF OPENING THE DRIVE WHEN THE CD IS INSIDE, BUT IT'S BRUTAL; YOU'LL BE SCARED FOR YOUR XBOX. STILL, I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR A WHILE AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED. SO YOU JUST HAVE TO:  - LAY THE XBOX DOWN - INSERT THE CD - AND WHILE IT'S PLAYING, TAPS ON THE XBOX WITH YOUR PALM - IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, TRY AGAIN   There you go, and for Xbox Live, Microsoft offers you a 3-month Silver subscription, but to activate it, you need to connect the ethernet cable to the modem and do some updates. And there you go.

Yes, me too, but on the screen it says to clean the disk with a soft cloth, then restart the console, and it does the same thing on new games too.

Sorry, but it seems to be good for a warranty return, and the warranty is three years (and it is also extended by the time spent in customer service, so three years and three weeks warranty).

Here’s the summary: -1 The warranty for the Xbox is only extended for the ROD issue, not for the disc drive! -2 So I was out of warranty, so I opened it up, swapped the drive with an equivalent one = it works! -3 I bought a second one because I'm super dumb and loaded! (with 4 years of warranty: 2-year extension at the Game store) -4 The PS3 is the biggest mistake mankind has ever made, long before weapons, politics, and Polly Pockets! I will never buy a damn Play3, I'd rather die  That's for those who are interested ^^ Thanks anyway for your responses

1) Buy a cleaning CD (that cleans the lens) if it doesn't work and your console is still under warranty, bring it back.

I bought an Xbox 360 five days ago and the drive won't read the games. Do you believe that? I've had a PS3 for over a year and it's still in perfect condition, never a problem. So when I see people saying that the PS3 is "crap," it's because those people have crap in their eyes.

It makes me laugh... I just bought my XBOX 360 a few hours ago and three games... two out of three games can't be read on the XBOX... it either shows Mixed Disc, Unreadable Disc, or there's a text that appears saying that this CD must be inserted into the Xbox console.... Isn't that just wonderful? Tomorrow, after work... I'll probably exchange it unless someone gives me an idea now on how to fix it! =P

Yeah, I have the same problem with the CDs that tell me mixed disk, open the tray, unreadable disk, and it happened to me two months after Christmas when I bought them. I called customer service, and they sent me a label, and like an idiot, I didn't have time to send it, and after a few days, the label expired. But for the drive, there's nothing to be done except to send it to customer service or take apart another Xbox and recover the drive, but that can only be done out of warranty.

Yeah, well... it hadn't even been a few hours since I bought it. Anyway, my problem is solved. Microplay, the ones who sold me the Xbox, initially didn't want to exchange my Xbox, but my dad, like a hero, came up with the argument about consumer rights! Woohoo! So now there's no issue. But for others, the only thing to do, as Damdam said, is to send your Xbox to the service center (without cables, without hard drive, or else apparently it doesn't come back, with nothing at all, just the console) otherwise, find someone who repairs Xboxes, but if it's still under warranty, you automatically lose it. I know a repair guy, but he's in Shawinigan (Quebec) Canada XD ^^

Hello everyone, I would like someone to help me, so here is my problem  my Xbox 360 is totally glitchy, it reads Xbox 1 games (normal), it plays music CDs (normal), it plays DVDs (normal), but for some reason it does not read Xbox 360 games. When I insert the disc, it says it can read the DVD, but then the screen goes completely white and there’s a message in a different language, basically saying please insert this disc or game into an Xbox 360, I can't remember exactly. Can someone help me? By the way, it is no longer under warranty and I live far from Canada. One last thing, nightkiller3041 is my username on Live, so I hope you can help me.

Hi, My Xbox 360 also completely refuses to read my games, here's what I do: "I open the tray, I place the game, e.g. Halo 3, I close the tray, then it says 'Reading' and after a few seconds it says 'Open Tray'. I put the game in the drive, and it doesn't start; the drive shows a white screen that says "to play this disc, place it in an Xbox 360," even though it's an Xbox game. As mentioned earlier, but I'll repeat it because there's a lot of unnecessary information (the proof is I had already skimmed through this topic and didn't see the actual useful information)  USE A CLEANING CD!  My console wouldn't read any game. When I put them in the drive, it would spin for 2 seconds and then tell me "open the drive" (basically it wasn't recognizing the CD), the same for DVDs.  I put in a cleaning CD, it didn't recognize it either (well, obviously), but after opening and closing it several times (and thus letting the drive spin a little with the cleaning CD), it was able to start executing the CD and then I initiated a cleaning, and now everything works perfectly.   Before opening the console or sending it to customer service, I think this is the first thing to try!

Hello, my Xbox 360 Arcade no longer reads games. When I try to launch a game like UFC, my Xbox recognizes the game but when I want to start an exhibition match, my Xbox stops spinning, and I am forced to return to the Xbox interface. It's not a problem with the game because when I put in another game like Sega Superstar Tennis, it launches, but when I select my hard drive to load previous saves, I have the same issue and my Xbox stops spinning. Finally, my Xbox had an HDMI issue; since my TV is an old plasma, it couldn't receive the 1080p signal, so I set it to 420p. If your Xbox game works when starting your console and gets stuck when launching a game (if you are using HDMI, of course), go to System / Display / HDMI / and select the 420p or 720p option for newer TVs than mine.

Absolutely the same problem, which really made me furious. I called customer service. Unfortunately, my warranty had expired by ONLY 3 MONTHS, so they refused after several threats like saying I would stop my live streams, I discouraged the console, etc. ... just BECAUSE of a simple disc drive problem, they told me to get lost --' It’s like the console only works for as long as the warranty lasts, and then it’s good for the trash. This is my 3rd console, which just proves that the machine is really crap. I kept the Xbox One for over 5 years, and this 360 piece of junk doesn't even last 1 year.

When the person from Micromania wanted to try it out (normal), they took it, tried it, came back and said "Are you messing with me? Je suis venu voir s'il y avait des solutions sur le net et je suis tombé sur divers commentaires. La plus efficace, mais un peu barbare, c'est de donner un coup sur ta console quand tu insères le CD. Moi, ça a marché.

Salut, peut-être que ta lentille a grillé, tu es parti pour racheter un lecteur je crois. Il y a des sites qui t'apprennent à reconnaître ton lecteur ^^ au fait si tu es déjà passé au SAV, oublie, c'est la misère.

For the reading problem, where you have to open and close the drive 10 or 11 times before the game launches, I found a solution. So, you need to open the console (be careful if the console is no longer under warranty), open the drive in two and clean the lens with a dry cotton swab, then close everything back up while remembering to dust the inside. I do it once every 5 months because the problem keeps coming back; I've messed up the screws and sniff, I can no longer open it, but with the right screwdrivers, there's no danger, so I've decided to buy a new one, that's it!!!

I have a personal technique that I use when my Xbox refuses to read the disc, so actually  -YOU OPEN AND CLOSE THE TRAY FAITHFULLY REPEATEDLY WITHOUT STOPPING -THEN WHEN THE TRAY CLOSES YOU TAP ON YOUR XBOX AND IT WORKS RIGHT AWAY -IF IT PERSISTS, IT'S ANOTHER PROBLEM OR JUST TURN IT OFF AND ON AGAIN AND DO THE SAME  ps: if you want more info, send me an email.

Salut, alors ta Xbox est morte parce que ton lecteur ne lit plus les jeux. Ça m'est déjà arrivé et j'en ai acheté une autre. Et ça commence comme ça, tu peux jouer un peu, mais après, il faut essayer encore et encore pendant un peu plus longtemps. J'espère pour toi que tu as encore la garantie, sinon ça fera 250 euros de nouveau pour une nouvelle Xbox.

Hello, I have another problem; my Xbox Elite console, since I flashed it, I don't think it's still under warranty, has frozen in the middle of a game, so my problem is that the tray won't open. The issue started when I put in Top Spin 3, but once the game started, the console froze, and then it began to make an abnormal noise as if the DVD was spinning at high speed, which is what I found when I forcibly opened the tray. Before closing the tray, I put in another game and manually closed it again, and the big problem is that it no longer reads the game; it says 'open.' Your reading eye is defective, change it and it will work unless your console has already experienced the eye of death, in other words, the Power button is lit red instead of green; if so, then sorry, your console is dead.
