    Hello,
    These are thumbnails created by certain devices (Canon) when recording video. To view them, simply change the extension to .jpg.

      perfectly accurate, ASCO; this thumbnail becomes visible and is useful on older systems (for example XP) for those who cannot display the MP4 file icon. Useless for others. Happy New Year to everyone. Christian.

    Hello everyone.
    To open a ".thm" file, you just need to rename it to ".jpg" and from there, any software can display it. Even Windows Preview.

      how to rename it if you can't open or save it? I downloaded one, but paint doesn't support it in thm, and I don't see how to rename it to jpeg.

      Hello, yes I was able to rename it after my post; I typed jpeg instead of thm but the file still keeps the thm extension behind jpeg. "file.jpeg.thm"

      workstation, tools, folder options, view, you display the extensions (unclick hide extensions). When you rename, it will be including the extension. Otherwise, it prevents renaming the extension. You see it because your PC does not recognize it, but to rename, in its current state, the usual rules apply.

    I received a .THM file, it's a video, and I can't open it, what should I do???

      In my case, THM files are images used to identify the videos captured with my Canon camera. In fact, the camera creates an image of the first filmed frame to help you identify the video stored in your camera. They are useless once transferred to your computer. If you check the properties of these files, they are only 90 KB, so they are in very low resolution.

Your explanations are clear and completely within my grasp, which isn't always easy given that my level is rather low... But I understood, and I thank you once again.
        And to those who keep asking the same question: just reread the thread from the beginning! You'll find your answer! It’s right there, in front of your eyes! Information from several months ago isn't necessarily outdated!

    THM files are files for my Sony Ericsson mobile phone, they are theme images for wallpapers
    I transfer them directly to the phone.

        Hello.

        Just so you know, THM files can be opened with Microsoft Paint.
        That said, they are still temporary files, to check for duplicates.

    Hello,
    I have a THM file as well, but made with my camera in panoramic mode.
    When I open it with Paint, my file opens but I can only see the first part of the photo!!
    I keep looking for a way to view it in full!
    If anyone has an idea...........it would be greatly appreciated.

    I know a software that can open the themes, it's called Sonyericsson Theme Creator (it can also create them)

    I transferred it to jpg, and indeed it opens, but that said, I can’t see the video; it only shows me the image, whereas it’s the video that interests me (Canon camera).
