No sound with my Labtec speakers.

Hello,
I am useless at computing and I just bought a new PC (Vista and the old one was Windows 98)
my Labtec speakers work perfectly but no sound is coming out!
everything is well connected and when I plug in the green jack my PC recognizes that it is speakers (plugged into the back) but it's asking me all sorts of things!
I don't understand anything
please help me because now, even when I reconnect my screen to the audio, there’s no sound!!
I am waiting for your advice or links as this problem has already been resolved for others

    THANK YOU TAVOR for your response
    after about ten attempts, I finally managed to get sound out of my speakers, but I can only get it from the front output of my tower! I tried connecting my speakers to the back, but there is no sound at all! (I make sure to select the correct output on the popup that appears on the screen
    so I think the driver is fine (at least I think so), but I need to do something else, but what?°
