Epson SX 400 printer WiFi?

Solved

Hello,

I just bought an Epson SX 400 that is Wi-Fi enabled; if I understood correctly, I need to connect a Wi-Fi antenna to the printer using a USB cable...
An Ethernet cable is also provided, but I can’t find an Ethernet port on the printer, only on the Wi-Fi antenna. Do I need to buy a network access point to connect to the antenna for the Wi-Fi to work?

Thanks
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Well, here is the universal solution:

For the connections refer to the manual, it's better with the diagrams anyway, basically:
Printer<-----USB----->Module_Edimax<-------Ethernet_Cable----->Router/Box<-----Wifi/Cable---->PC

Where <-----?????-----> represents a connectivity
and / an "or"
And that's it! Nothing more!!

1. Install the software following the on-screen instructions; if it works via the wifi install, lucky you, you're quite the lucky one ^^. Look at the end for using the printer on the network. If the wifi install fails, DO NOT restart the install again as it would create a printer each time! Continue until the end of the install and move on to step 2:
2. Connect your print server module to your box or router via the Ethernet cable; if you've already tampered with your module, do a reset (between the antenna and the power plug) press for 4 seconds and restart (unplug and plug the power back in). By default, the print server (Edimax module) takes an address from a DHCP. So your Box must be set up as such (see your Box's admin interface) DHCP + Router mode activated and Wifi that goes without saying!
3. Restart the module so it can get a new address (the first free one in the DHCP range)
4. Launch the "server manager" program from the Epson tool suite (it should be installed in step 1).
5. Initiate a search for the print server (in the toolbar at the top, last button image: magnifying glass), it should find your server with a weird name. Select it.
6. Click on "Configure" (2nd button in the toolbar image: gear) icons will appear in the right panel.
7. Click on the "Wireless" icon image=parabola, you will be asked for an identifier and a password enter "Admin" for the identifier and "1234" for the password.
8. Set up your wireless connection as you would for your computer.
9. Save. The diode on the Edimax module should blink a bit more. Wait a bit longer until you hear it ;-)
10. Exit "server manager". Unplug the module's power. Unplug the network cable. Plug the power back in.
11. If your "Wifi" diode starts blinking rapidly, you've succeeded (after about 20 seconds)! If it blinks once, stays on for 45 seconds, turns off and starts again indefinitely, it's lost; restart from step 3, the server cannot connect to your access point.

If everything went well, you should be able to see your print server by relaunching the "server manager" program while the network cable is unplugged. Close the program.

Congratulations, you can almost use your printer (it's earned, huh ^^).

On the computer where you first installed the printer, there is still a little thing to do. Go to Start=> Control Panel=> Printers and Faxes. You should find 2 Epson Stylus SX 400 printers. In fact, one is from the install via direct USB connection (the default one normally) and the other is the one set up for the network. Change and set the other as the default printer or run a test with a dummy Word doc or anything (by changing the printer in the print properties to know which one is the right one in the dropdown list).

To use your printer on another workstation, you need to insert the install CD, and on the second screen check "set another computer to use the printer"; you won't have to do anything else (phew)

Printing is done normally once all these steps are completed.

As for the other functions, you need to launch a little program called "MFP manager" in the tool suite. You should see your printer appear connected to your print server and marked with a red check ("V" for checking) (don't be alarmed by the red, it's usually a bad sign, but not here :D). Select it, then set the time for which you will "reserve" the printer; indeed, once connected, other stations will no longer be able to use the printer. Windows then detects a whole bunch of devices that are nothing other than the scanner and memory card readers.

There you go, enjoy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate
I hope I've been as clear as possible!

PS: I'm not even working for Epson ;-) I'm rather on bad terms with them because it doesn't work for me since my print server can't connect to my access point when I use encryption... But it should work for you (works for me without encryption; I must have a firmware issue and I'm battling with Epson for a new one; they don't want to understand :S)

Hi everyone, I had a problem that I solved by taking my printer back to a seller who sent it back to Epson and in the end it was the router that wasn't working, and they gave me a new one!!
Since I had everything set up last time, I followed your advice and did as you said step by step, and I finally got my computer to detect my server!!
THE PROBLEM is that now everything is fine except at step 11 because my server is not blinking fast and isn't working! I have restarted at least 5 times easily and still nothing!! Do you have a solution since you have GOOD ADVICE?????????
