Hello,
I just bought an Epson SX 400 that is Wi-Fi enabled; if I understood correctly, I need to connect a Wi-Fi antenna to the printer using a USB cable...
An Ethernet cable is also provided, but I can’t find an Ethernet port on the printer, only on the Wi-Fi antenna. Do I need to buy a network access point to connect to the antenna for the Wi-Fi to work?

Well, here is the universal solution:
For the connections refer to the manual, it's better with the diagrams anyway, basically:
Printer<-----USB----->Module_Edimax<-------Ethernet_Cable----->Router/Box<-----Wifi/Cable---->PC
Where <-----?????-----> represents a connectivity
and / an "or"
And that's it! Nothing more!!
1. Install the software following the on-screen instructions; if it works via the wifi install, lucky you, you're quite the lucky one ^^. Look at the end for using the printer on the network. If the wifi install fails, DO NOT restart the install again as it would create a printer each time! Continue until the end of the install and move on to step 2:
2. Connect your print server module to your box or router via the Ethernet cable; if you've already tampered with your module, do a reset (between the antenna and the power plug) press for 4 seconds and restart (unplug and plug the power back in). By default, the print server (Edimax module) takes an address from a DHCP. So your Box must be set up as such (see your Box's admin interface) DHCP + Router mode activated and Wifi that goes without saying!
3. Restart the module so it can get a new address (the first free one in the DHCP range)
4. Launch the "server manager" program from the Epson tool suite (it should be installed in step 1).
5. Initiate a search for the print server (in the toolbar at the top, last button image: magnifying glass), it should find your server with a weird name. Select it.
6. Click on "Configure" (2nd button in the toolbar image: gear) icons will appear in the right panel.
7. Click on the "Wireless" icon image=parabola, you will be asked for an identifier and a password enter "Admin" for the identifier and "1234" for the password.
8. Set up your wireless connection as you would for your computer.
9. Save. The diode on the Edimax module should blink a bit more. Wait a bit longer until you hear it ;-)
10. Exit "server manager". Unplug the module's power. Unplug the network cable. Plug the power back in.
11. If your "Wifi" diode starts blinking rapidly, you've succeeded (after about 20 seconds)! If it blinks once, stays on for 45 seconds, turns off and starts again indefinitely, it's lost; restart from step 3, the server cannot connect to your access point.
If everything went well, you should be able to see your print server by relaunching the "server manager" program while the network cable is unplugged. Close the program.
Congratulations, you can almost use your printer (it's earned, huh ^^).
On the computer where you first installed the printer, there is still a little thing to do. Go to Start=> Control Panel=> Printers and Faxes. You should find 2 Epson Stylus SX 400 printers. In fact, one is from the install via direct USB connection (the default one normally) and the other is the one set up for the network. Change and set the other as the default printer or run a test with a dummy Word doc or anything (by changing the printer in the print properties to know which one is the right one in the dropdown list).
To use your printer on another workstation, you need to insert the install CD, and on the second screen check "set another computer to use the printer"; you won't have to do anything else (phew)
Printing is done normally once all these steps are completed.
As for the other functions, you need to launch a little program called "MFP manager" in the tool suite. You should see your printer appear connected to your print server and marked with a red check ("V" for checking) (don't be alarmed by the red, it's usually a bad sign, but not here :D). Select it, then set the time for which you will "reserve" the printer; indeed, once connected, other stations will no longer be able to use the printer. Windows then detects a whole bunch of devices that are nothing other than the scanner and memory card readers.
There you go, enjoy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate

PS: I'm not even working for Epson ;-) I'm rather on bad terms with them because it doesn't work for me since my print server can't connect to my access point when I use encryption... But it should work for you (works for me without encryption; I must have a firmware issue and I'm battling with Epson for a new one; they don't want to understand :S)

you should be able to plug it into a USB port next to your box, I'm with Free and I put it behind the Freebox and I can print from any computer, you just need to connect it and set it up as a network printer on each computer.

I also have the problem with my SX400 Wifi regarding the wifi:
Do we need to connect the small wifi antenna of the SX400 to the Freebox via Ethernet cable? (That seems strange to me!)
Or rather

I bought an Epson SX 400 WI FI printer, I'm having difficulties installing the WI FI connection. It works well when I connect it with a USB cable, but that's not why I bought it!!!
I've tried everything by following the instructions on the CD step by step. I correctly connected the Ethernet cable to my SFR Neufbox and the Edimax router, but nothing works. As soon as it searches, it has a network connection problem. I have Vista as my operating system. If someone could help me, that would be great!!!! Thanks in advance.

Come on, I'm going to help you find a solution. I spent a day on it. You need to activate your Neuf box in Wi-Fi, so go to All Programs - SFR - Options - Neuf Box Configuration. Then Wi-Fi; I set mine to WEP with a 5-digit key that you need to remember. After that, launch your installation CD for easy installation and follow the instructions. Later, it will ask for another installation for the port; choose the custom installation. It will ask for a manual or automatic IP address, so set it to automatic. Then it will search; put the port to A0... WEP, and continue following the instructions. It will search by itself, and that's it, it works. However, be careful after the installation; go to the little printer icon on the taskbar to connect and disconnect it. You need to remove the automatic disconnection after 5 minutes; otherwise, it keeps disconnecting. I hope you manage to do it.

Ok, it's already a good thing to have the livebox configuration. To check or modify the settings, it asks for an Admin password which is "admin." Normally, your livebox is also a DHCP server by default (it assigns an IP address to any connected device that requests one)
It's quite surprising that your machine has the IP "10" (last number) unless you have many devices connected via Wifi!
If your server is properly connected, it should therefore have an IP address of the type 192.168.1.X assigned by the livebox. Likewise, the Ethernet network LED (wired network) should be on and the activity LED (the one in the middle) should be blinking.
In your browser, try entering addresses of the type "192.168.1.X" starting with X=2, then move up (except for 10 which is your address) until you reach the server configuration page of Edimax!
Otherwise, if you have installed the "MFP manager" software (included in the installation, in the Epson suite under the start menu), it should find it automatically when you launch the software.
Let's get back in touch once you've established the connection with the server by one of these two means (they are equivalent)!

So I did the test in the IE window 192.168.1.2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/11/12.... and nothing
on the other hand in the settings of the Livebox
my IP is 192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0
start of DHCP range 192.168.1.10
end of DHCP range......................150
?????? There it is, I’m drowning and still no network either in the MFP or in server manager

Ok so the "10" can be explained by the beginning of the range, I had forgotten this orange-made particularity (why start at 10 when 2 would be logical? We'll probably never know!).
So connect your Edimax module via Ethernet to the Livebox and press (with the help of a Bic pen) the "reset" button (between the Ethernet port and the antenna) for a good 5 seconds. Restart (unplug and plug back in the power supply) the module. And try again. If you only have one PC connected, the module should be assigned the address 192.168.1.11 if the DHCP of the Livebox is activated. I also bought the SX 405 Wifi, I thought I was dreaming when I said no more cables, we are in the 21st century and NOPE!! You still have to connect the Epson SX 405 to the "box" to have it on the network, just like any regular printer

So to help you, first of all, your box needs to be in router mode with DHCP option enabled (the thing that makes your computers on the same network without manual IP configuration). Without that, it’s quite an achievement for a non-initiated person! Then you connect the box to your box (without the printer if you want) with the provided cable (yes, it only serves this purpose). From your PC, check the IP address by doing "Start->Run", you type "CMD" and hit enter. In the window, you type "IPCONFIG" + enter. It will display lines. You look for the line "IP Address" which is of the type "X.X.X.X" where 0
You note this combination. You open your browser. You enter the address:
X.X.X.X+1 (of course, you do not enter "X" but the actual numbers you had previously noted except for the last one to which you add 1)
Normally, it will display an Edimax page, which is the internal configuration page of your box (you are on your box, in other words). If it doesn't work, try with X+2 or X-1

At my place, she works on Wi-Fi, the cable is just for the time needed to set up the printer server. If your encryption is WPA, try using WEP, the box as you say has some small issues with WPA! There you go. If you have any other questions, let me know, sorry for the response time, I will follow up on all this by email!
Sorry, I almost forgot, if you can't connect all the devices at the same time. Don't stress about hauling everything around. Just move the print server next to your box, set it up, save the configuration, turn it off, relocate it, first connect the printer before reconnecting it to the power!

Santa Claus (on my recommendation) brought me this famous printer, which is causing me some little issues to make it work!! It works well when connected to my computer but not via wifi; when I install it, everything goes perfectly until I disconnect the ethernet cables --> connection impossible, check your network settings (which I do, I restart and still nothing...!!)
I first tried WPA/TKIP encryption (the code is indeed the WEP key of the livebox, right?) then WEP encryption but without success (what are the different keys to enter? Do we have to create them?)
Anyway, I need your help (I already tried what was mentioned on the forum but without success (I might have gone about it the wrong way)

Hello, I just spent 2 days connecting the Epson 400 Wi-Fi printer... and I succeeded. Following the instructions on the CD, it always messed up at the "unplug the ethernet cable" window. I would unplug it, the PC would work to search for the connection and then tell me "connection error, check your settings." I tried again and again. I tried on another laptop. Same. I searched in the Edimax software. But nothing. It worked on Wi-Fi as long as I left the ethernet cable plugged into the Edimax router and the Livebox. I went to check the Livebox settings to try to allow the printer's Wi-Fi. And then the solution came to me at lunch: for those with an "Orange" Livebox, don't forget that when you are at the "unplug the ethernet cable" window, you must of course follow the instructions but also press the synchronization button on your Livebox during the entire "connecting, please wait" window. It worked on my 2nd attempt. The first time, I also got "connection error, check your settings." I almost brought everything back to the seller after these 2 days of attempts. I tried a 2nd time, replugged the ethernet cable, unplugged when prompted, clicked next, and pressed the sync button under the Livebox, and this 2nd time was the right one. The ethernet cable is now stored in the box and my printer is now away from the Livebox. Good luck.

To get more information about your box, do the following:

Hello, I have the same problem. I'm on cable and my issue is with the Ethernet cable on my box; there is only one Ethernet output and it's already in use because it's connected to my computer. If I unplug it, I obviously lose internet connection. So can you help me find a solution, please? I supposedly bought a wireless one, but there are none left than before! See my response to Jo below. Your Livebox or Neufbox is just useful for setting up the printer's Wi-Fi. After that, no more cables lying around between the PC, the Livebox, and the printer. However, I haven't tried printing via Wi-Fi with the Livebox turned off... The Livebox has become the central hub of the house; TV, mobile phone, radio, and now printer. For now, I'm not unplugging it... it works.

So if your PC is connected to the internet via a box, you won't be able to do ad-hoc with your printer, or else you'll lose the internet connection... which, I think, is not the goal! In ad-hoc mode, only 2 devices can communicate with each other, establishing a sort of network bridge. The box acts as a relay and allows multiple devices to communicate with each other!
That being said, I remind you that the cable is only used for configuring the print server (Edimax box).

Well, I uninstalled the MFP, rebooted the module, turned it off and restarted the PC, and reinstalled the MFP "from the CD by going through custom installation/configuring the printer for the first time" (as usual).
And at the moment of searching for a network, "no print server was found" and the installation does not go any further.
As for the LED indicator, the standby/internet/phone/Wi-Fi lights are permanently green, and
the other two are off (the one represented by 3 squares is the network, right?).

an Epson SX205 (half the price of the SX400) and a HP Wi-Fi box for printers

Good evening, I am in the same predicament as all of you. Wi-Fi printer sx405 with Vista and Sagem Livebox. Thanks to your help, I managed to get it to work over Wi-Fi (USB was already working before), and when I unplugged the printer and the Wi-Fi box to move them, nothing works anymore. No server is recognized, basically a disaster. I tried a reset on the Wi-Fi box, but nothing helps; the Wi-Fi LED remains on, and the others are off. I would therefore like to start from scratch, but how can we uninstall everything (with a cleaner for example, but without knowing which files we need to remove, it's not easy). Thank you.

I have two computers and the Freebox.
The printer works perfectly when it's connected via USB.
However, I haven't been able to get it to work via wifi on either of the two computers.
I followed Free's instructions, but nothing works. When I install the printer, my network is found; also, my Freebox detects the printer, as a second red LED is now lit.
However, when I try to print without the USB cable, nothing happens and an error message appears.
Could someone please help me?

Well, I see that everyone is having a lot of trouble with this damn printer. As for me, it's a real hassle too. As soon as I want to print something, the computer tells me that the printer is not ready. So I suppose there must be a connection problem. If this has happened to any of you before, let me know how you managed to fix it.

I also can’t get that damn Edimax to connect, so I tried something to fry the toaster, I succeeded by plugging the RJ45 from the Edimax to the computer, instead of the Edimax to the Livebox, and yes, they didn’t mention that in the manual. I don’t remember if I did a sync on the Livebox (button 1) but it works, well almost!! Can’t find the scanner with the toaster.

Well, it works on the first PC, but you need to remember to reconnect the printer with MFP Manager in the taskbar, which disconnects the printer by default every 5 minutes to keep it accessible to other possible PCs.
My issue is with installing it on the second PC because when you insert the CD and choose "Install on another computer," it starts all over again with all the setup and connection mess of the server, which is already operational! So I'm stuck trying to just install MFP on the second one without going through everything again.

No, you connect the USB cable between your printer and your print router, and the Ethernet cable between your router and your Freebox.

I had the same problem with WPA encryption on my Dartybox, I wasted 2 days on that, then I tried this software http://www.edimax.com/images/Image/Driver_Utility/Wire/PrintServer/PS-1206MF/MFPWizard.zip and with this software the configuration worked the first time.
Here's how to do it:
1- do the easy or custom installation from the Epson CD but do not use the printer configuration for the first time.
2- install the MFPWIZARD software, then it will open and look like the Epson software, do all the configuration; you can use WPA2 AES and TKIP encryption without problems. To enter the software, the username is: admin and the password is: 1234
If you do the configuration correctly, everything will work very well.

Since I had everything set up last time, I followed your advice and did as you said step by step, and I finally got my computer to detect my server!!
THE PROBLEM is that now everything is fine except at step 11 because my server is not blinking fast and isn't working! I have restarted at least 5 times easily and still nothing!! Do you have a solution since you have GOOD ADVICE?????????
