Hello,
Explanation of my situation: I am a student in a University Residence who will be stuck all year in a non-renovated 9m2 room without any Internet or phone connection. The only way for me to connect (and I have no choice) is to use the Crous Wifi which is, of course, accompanied by a very annoying RENATER restriction Proxy...
But the worst part is that the Crous Wifi in Toulouse is very outdated... With a theoretical speed of 6.75 Mega (only, while they have 100 Mega in Limoges), the Internet connection is often impossible. And if it works by chance, the speed fluctuates between 56 K and 4.5 Mega depending on its mood...
I explain the recurring connection problem we have (everyone is in the same mess in this university residence). We can easily connect to the Crous Intranet and identify ourselves. But once logged in, the problems start and we have between a 1 in 2 and a 1 in 10 chance that our homepage (often Google) refuses to load! Impossible to connect! All this due to the Proxy that, despite our identification, does not want to let us access the Internet because it is bugged!
So when the connection refuses to work, Your Freedom is often the software that saves our lives. Because in addition to bypassing most of the sites censored by the Restriction Proxy (except for video games and MSN), it allows us to perform the simple browsing that we need.
The Problem: I finally come to the crux of the problem: with a free account, we have a maximum speed of 64 K, limited to one-hour chunks and 6 hours a day. So it goes without saying that with 64 K, it takes an average of a minute for a web page to load, and downloading is impossible, as it's way too slow! (At 7.9 ko/s, it takes 130 minutes to download 60 MB! And if it cuts off every hour...)
Knowing that I am stuck here until spring 2009, I am thinking of getting a paid Your Freedom account for 6 months. But the server offers three subscription levels. And which one to choose, that is the question...
_The "Free" account is limited in connection time and to a speed of 64 K. It can only open 10 channels.
_The "Basic" account at €4 per month (and €17 for 6 months) allows for a speed of 256 K and unlimited connection. It allows for 50 simultaneous channels to be opened. In my opinion, it is ideal for simple browsing, but not more. It is too limited for downloading.
_The "Enhanced" account is €10 per month (or €50 for 6 months). It allows for unlimited connection, a speed of 4 Mega (16 times more than the Basic) and frees 100 channels. Ideal for downloading.
_The "Total" account is €20 per month (or €110 for 6 months). It provides unlimited connection and speed (well, limited to the bandwidth of my Wifi access point), frees 200 channels, and allows the use of 5 "Channel Ports". This is what is needed to successfully play online.
After weighing the pros and cons:
I'm told that the last one is a bit of a scam because with €20 per month, I could pay for a connection to an Internet service provider (which is impossible in a non-renovated room). Additionally, I've been told that by combining Your Freedom with other similar software (Proxifier, SocksCap, HTTP Tunnel...), one can manage to play online. Except that I've never succeeded. (Port redirection problem.)
After that, I hesitate between the Basic and the Enhanced. The Enhanced tempts me because I would like to download smoothly and without wasting time. The Basic is only useful to avoid wasting time on simple browsing. In any case, I can't stay on the Free account, because I waste way too much time waiting for loads! (15 minutes for 1 hour of connection!)
I should clarify something: I do not have Internet in my hometown! Hence an immense frustration of not always having a proper connection!
Another thing: the game I want to play online is The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-Earth 2.
So the questions are:
What do you advise me to buy as a paid account for Your Freedom?
Does anyone know how to configure Your Freedom as well as the other tunneling software to play online and bypass the Restriction Proxy?
Thank you for your answers.

It's good! I have Your Freedom!
I'm going through the manual configuration of Your Freedom in FTP. It might help everyone! :)
First, go to "Settings," tab "Server Connection." Then complete the following fields:
Address: ems[Number from 01 to 24, except 22].your-freedom.de => Example: "ems12.your-freedom.de" or "ems05.your-freedom.de."
There are a total of 23 servers, hence it goes from 01 (make sure not to forget the first zero) up to 24... Except for server number 22 which does not exist yet. To switch servers in a snap, you just have to change the number ;). The rest does not change.
Port: 21
Protocol: ftp
Check the 8 boxes, only the following 4:
_Reconnect after server shutdown (3rd box)
_Redirect SOCKS4/5 DNS requests to the Freedom server (5th box)
_Enable encryption (6th box)
_Alternate encryption keys (7th box)
Then make sure to enter the correct numbers in the following fields:
Minimum buffer size: 1500
RTT measurements: [nothing]
Keepalive interval: [nothing]
Initial POST size: 10000000
Minimum POST size: 20000
FTP mode: both
Fortunately, there were tooltips to indicate what usually goes in.
That's it. This configuration works, and moreover, you can switch servers like changing socks! :)
In the meantime, I'm going to consider the topic as resolved, as to my initial question "Which paid account of Your Freedom to choose?", I already have the answer :)
Have a nice day.-
Hello, I did exactly what you described, except that instead of FTP mode: "both", there is "none, normal, and passive".
Once I filled in the settings, I click on save and exit. What should I do next?
Because I still have the firewall blocking access to certain sites.
Thanks in advance for any other response. -

Well hello everyone, there's a way to set up your-freedom for free, but it doesn't matter because it only lasts for a month!
Here’s what they want.
First, go to the your-freedom.net page, sign up, and then download the new version. After that, go to your account settings: for example chico20 password chiko10
Then go to the server and enter a number from 01 to 17, for example: ems12.your-freedom. And that’s it, my friends, go back and click on connect.
That’s how I connect. -

It's all good. I've made my decision!
After testing the "Enhanced" account for three days and realizing that I never exceeded 512 K (because of the outdated Crous Wifi), I've settled for a Basic account for 6 months (less than €3 a month!), and it's great! (Best value for money).
Perfect for the simple browsing I do, and no more interruptions! :) Not to mention that loading times are divided by 4, which is huge. ;)-
In my opinion, you've been a little misled...
I'm about in the same situation as you (very poor and random wifi connection with port blocking, etc...) and I play online with a free YF account. The only real problem is that you have to reconnect every hour. It's true that it's not great for downloading (25 MB goes through without any problem) but otherwise, I can surf without too much difficulty, and for the MMORPG (Shaiya) it works with no more latency than with a normal connection.
Here's the tutorial just in case you're still interested (or if someone happens upon this post):

The 8th response is the solution; it's detailed, simple, and FREE. -

yup,
I am also at the Crous tsle3 tripode C.
The Your Freedom payment solution didn't work for me, so the best option, if you can, is to set up an SSH server at your home (free with no bandwidth limitations other than your provider's), so you can surf, play your favorite MMO, or download. You can connect to it using PuTTY.
Otherwise, for your Your Freedom configuration problem, you just need to put in the proxy IP 10.251.151.4:3128 and log in to the Crous network beforehand.
Personally, I used HTTPS; it might slow things down a bit more than FTP, but it's better to be secure :p.
Have fun playing :p -
The free version allows you to stay connected for an hour, but you can also play online with, for example, World of Warcraft with a latency of 50ms; you just need to have the Proxifier software as well.

A free account is good for casual users of Your Freedom (or those who play online games without lag). But beyond that, for those who always do simple browsing via Your Freedom, a paid account is doubly useful:
First, to avoid being penalized by the time restriction of 6 hours a day and 18 hours a week. (That's less than 3 hours a day in the end!)
Then, to avoid having to wait a minute each time to load a web page... As a backup, it's manageable... But for regular connection, it's draining in the long run at 64K... :(
So, I boosted my account! Moreover, with a paid account, no more interruptions every hour! :)
The Basic account is perfect for basic browsing or for those who are fed up with not being able to play hardcore with online games (because of the disconnection every hour, lol).
Beyond that, it's for high-speed...
I am so satisfied with Your Freedom that I even consider upgrading to the Enhanced account... Even if for some, it may seem stupid to have to pay for a connection that's supposed to be free in the first place...
But the problem with CROUS is that their crappy Proxy bugs my internet browsers, in addition to having an awful Ping and low speed... It's port 80 that's all rusty!
Strangely, when my information is encapsulated in another format for another authorized port, the speed and ping are noticeably better.
By way of comparison, browsing via Your Freedom at 64K is of the same quality as that via the "normal" route through the CROUS Proxy Restriction! (Just to say!)
In short, I pay to have a connection worthy of the name, where I don't waste more than half my time loading web pages and getting annoyed due to the bugs caused by these lags! (And I don't regret it. :))-
Hi, I have the same problem as you, Amras Anárion. I can't connect to World of Warcraft on the Crous network in Toulouse (I'm at Tripôle C). I downloaded Your-Freedom but I can't configure it.
It searches for servers but never finds anything. I just want to know how you managed to find servers, and if you have time, could you come configure it for me? I'll leave you my email address in case you can give me any answers. craki31@hotmail.fr

You mean you can't connect to a Freedom server simply.
It's the ems24 server that blocks automatic searching and messes everything up. You need to configure it manually to connect to Your Freedom.
I found the combination that allows you to connect via ftp manually. But right now, I don’t have Your Freedom at hand. As soon as I have the configuration, I’ll send it to you ;).
PS: I even asked this question in the English forums of Your Freedom. They replied to configure the thing manually. I managed to work it out, and after several combinations, I found one ;). But you need to put the right numbers in the control panel. (1500, 20000000, with some boxes left blank.) -
I have been playing WoW since the beginning of the year, but I have a problem. For some time now, I have been receiving special messages…

I don’t know where it’s coming from.
When you talk about 3 hours a day, is that information you have verified?
Thank you for your response.

Good evening buddies, I have a problem with Your Freedom. When I connect, the connection doesn't last and it stops working. I don't know what to do, please help me. I would like to browse for a long time without the connection cutting off all the time. What should I do?
What can I do about this problem? Help me please, sorry.
How can I subscribe for a YEAR on Your Freedom?

Some Freedom servers have been shut down recently.
In that case, switch servers and pick a new one ;)
What were you talking about for 3 hours a day?
Your Freedom is limited to 6 hours a day for free.

Hello,
I know that usually Your Freedom is used to bypass proxies, but this situation is a bit particular. Let me explain:
Some people always need Internet even while traveling, at work, or at home.
Also, some of them do not have ADSL access because the switch is more than 5 km away from their homes. Those who are tech-savvy manage to find a solution to the problem using their mobile phones. Yes, with a simple unlimited WAP internet plan, it is possible to force a mobile phone to share its WAP connection with a computer. It effectively acts as a modem, and this modem works almost, and I say almost, like a traditional ADSL modem. Indeed, its use is strictly prohibited by operators. But often, it is the only solution. The mobile phone still connects to the mobile internet behind a proxy, which is that of the operator supposed to market the device.
So you agree that the host using the mobile's shared connection will also have to go through this proxy but with an identity that is not their own.
However, it turns out that more and more people only have one computer but often multiple ones on a network, and this network needs access to the Internet. If the operator's server does not appreciate that a computer uses the WAP shared connection of a mobile phone, then imagine what it must be like for an entire local network, especially since re-sharing this connection in NAT is possible, but the browsers must be configured because the ICS host is not a proxy but a simple gateway, and behind this gateway, the server can see the identity of the browsers.
Now with Your Freedom: here, the scenario behaves differently. With this software, we can forget about the operator's proxy issues, user agents... The browsers keep their identity, and they are no longer the only ones accessing the Internet. They have to share the cake into as many pieces as there are applications that need the net to function. With Your Freedom, it’s as if the proxy never existed; it’s as if it is no longer there.
However, the problem is that not all computers have the ability to share an Internet connection via NAT. Therefore, we are obliged to go through a proxy software.
So my question is the following: do you think that Your Freedom can configure proxy applications so that they can use it to access the Internet and even force them to use it?
Well, I hope to receive a response as soon as possible!!!!! Thank you!!!! -
Hi, I'm trying to play with a free freedom account but I feel like the bandwidth is never at full capacity and the game lags a lot...
