PS3 blinking red light Solved

Question

Hello, my console isn't working anymore. When I turn it on, nothing appears on the screen, then one second later it goes from green to orange and then to flashing red. I don't know what to do because the worst part is that it's still under warranty, but in the United States, and yes, it was an 80 GB I bought on eBay. So if I have to send it back, I'm not sure I'll see it again. If anyone has had the same problem and managed to fix it, thank you.

Good evening, yes I had it repaired the first time and it came back, so I sent it back to my repairman who in turn sent it to Sony even though I no longer have a warranty with Sony. They repaired it but the cost was 230 euros. To keep it short, you could repair it yourself, I think, because the failure comes from the motherboard which is going bad, so it's best to get a quote from a professional before any disassembly. Has your console been disassembled?

Hi, are you sure it's the motherboard?
Yes, my console was disassembled and my dad thought it was the power supply, but since you’re telling me it's the motherboard, I’m not so sure..
Otherwise, my dad went to Micromania and they gave him the number of a guy who works there and is an expert in PlayStation repairs!

For your information, this failure is most often due to overheating as they say, but it could either be the motherboard or the fan. This failure is the most problematic. It is said to reset it via the touch on/off button to a repairer or yourself.

Hello, I don't think there's anything serious. Mine also acts up with the CD drive, but it works. As for overheating, it's impossible; the light is red and the console shuts down immediately in case of a breakdown.

Hello everyone, I will probably fix a few issues...  Firstly, for the blinking LED, it does not have to turn yellow to be in YLOD (this happened to me). So if you are out of warranty, I strongly recommend trying the "trick" on this forum, in the "ps3" section: Advertisement removed Moderation CCM.  Secondly, for the steady blue LED of the reader, it is indeed possible that a ribbon or wire inversion during reassembly, as well as a reversal of anode/cathode of the LED, causes it to stay blue continuously. (which surprises me in the case of the ps3)   Thirdly, I greet you and hope I have answered some... Listen everyone, here is the solution for the Red or Orange Ylod, so take apart the console and heat the processor for 3 minutes to reconnect the processor, and don't worry, it will work again.  I am a console repairer and I can fix this for free.  In fact, too much dust or too much gaming time has caused the RAM to detach from the processors and they no longer do their job. Pour la 60 giga, tu prends un sèche-cheveux, tu mets au froid et tu souffles la poussière par les trous d'aération de ta Play pendant 20 minutes. Tu la laisses reposer pendant 10 heures, puis tu la rallumes par derrière tout en restant appuyé sur le bouton d'allumer et d'éjecter, et le CD devrait sortir. Ça m'est arrivé la même chose, mais je pense que le YLOD est un petit truc simple, c'est qu'à cause de la poussière qui a envahi mes circuits. Tu ouvres ta Play, tu fais le nettoyage et tu refermes, et ça marche.

For some it works, for others not.. You can always try:  1 - Position your finger on the EJECT button of the system while holding it down. 2 - While still holding it down, turn on your system until you hear 1 single BEEP and then the fan starts running at full speed. 3 - Wait for that to finish, then press the power button on the back of the system. 4 - Turn it back on & try (personally, it didn’t work for me)  With a bit of luck.. it will work for you :P  EJECT = Button to remove the CD from the system

It's pointless to repair that console; it requires a lot of equipment and accuracy, plus it's a temporary fix (the problem will return soon), so basically, the console is dead.

It just happened to me  I took it apart, I warmed up the motherboard with a hair dryer (for about 20 minutes) and now it's working (I didn't know anything about the PS3 and I succeeded)

You may say I'm lucky, but it's true I found the first PS3 outside, so I took it, but as soon as I turn it on, the button turns green and 4 seconds later it turns light orange and then red, and it keeps flashing endlessly. The technique of using a hairdryer for 15 minutes in the console's ventilation worked for me!! I had no idea it would actually work. I have a PS3 slim that had a YLOD, and after using this technique, it's functioning perfectly, so I recommend you give it a try!
