Hello,

I have a Freebox V5 with Freeplug.
The Freebox is set up as a router, the local network works fine with 2 PCs wired.
(On the Freebox HD side, I haven’t connected anything for the TV, will see later)

I am looking to connect a 3rd PC using a Freeplug Classic box.
I have connected the RJ45 output from the network card of this PC to the Freeplug Classic box.

Now I read the Free documentation and here is what it says:

Procedure for associating a Freeplug Classic

A Freeplug Classic can only be associated with a Freeplug or another Freeplug Classic.

-----------
OK, so I'm thinking of associating it with the Freeplug from the Freebox.

That’s where it gets tricky. I can’t perform the association process proposed in this document. There is no red/green button to associate on the Freeplug side of the Freebox?

Do I need to buy another Freeplug Classic box and connect it via RJ45 to the 100mb switch??

Under these conditions, to connect a PC, would I need two Freeplug Classic boxes which is not at all obvious from the start?

Thank you in advance for your responses.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.17

yes,
you need to buy another freeplug, the ones provided to connect the hd box are not compatible with the older ones.

did you see?
there's a search on the ccm forum...
it's handy to use it... before asking a question, right?

Thank you Brupala for your response. It is indeed what I was looking for.

But I searched and I didn't find. You can believe me because instead I spent a good 15 minutes drafting my question.

WARNING: there is an error in brupala's response!

The question was: "I am looking to connect a 3rd PC using a Freeplug Classic box."
Brupala's response was: "yes, you need to buy another freeplug, the ones provided to connect the HD box are not compatible with the older ones."

The correct answer:
The FreePlug Classic can associate and communicate with the FreePlugs!
A tutorial is available on this page: https://www.aduf.org/viewtopic.php?t=182194

So, in your case, it is not at all necessary to buy a new FreePlug Classic!!!
You JUST need to associate the FreePlug Classic with the FreePlug, and everything will work :)

You just need one FreePlug plugged in behind the ADSL box (no matter the port), for all other FreePlugs / FreePlug Classic at your place to have internet access!
Make sure to check the tutorial, everything is explained ;)

PS: brupala's error was probably unintentional:
The older LEA cpl do not see the FreePlugs. But the FreePlug Classic is specifically designed to take advantage of the FreePlug connection

OK, Mr. Clay is correctly associated by following the link in the tutorial. Thank you.

Indeed Mc Clay,
the freeplug classic are very recent (this September apparently), I didn't know they existed, I was still thinking of the old cpl85.
Thank you for correcting that.
However, regarding the article on the aduf site:
they say somewhere "5 PCs, 5 freeplugs..." I think in that case, it is preferable to put a switch behind one freeplug and several PCs behind that switch if the PCs are grouped together.

Hello MrClay
I have the HD Freebox.
Everything is OK (network, 1st PC directly connected, TV, phone, router activated) except that I want to connect a 2nd PC using powerline adapters.
I was advised to get the devolo dLAN 200 AVeasy powerline adapters, so I bought a pair and followed the installation diagram.

However, the 2nd PC cannot connect because it cannot find the other Devolo socket (even though it has been identified).
Doubtful, I have the following questions:
1) Are devolo powerline adapters compatible with HD Freebox?
2) If yes, what setup should I follow? If not, should I buy an additional Freeplug that will be compatible with the HD Freebox?

Thank you for your clarifications

I was advised to get the devolo dLAN 200 AVeasy

1) Are devolo powerline adapters compatible with the Freebox HD?

If you were advised and it doesn't work, then you were poorly advised...

2) If yes, what setup should I use?
I don't know if it's compatible, but try this:
- hold down the button on the dLAN 200 AVeasy for 15 seconds (to reset it)
- then pair the dLAN 200 AVeasy with one of your FreePlugs
(try to follow this tutorial, as if it were a FreePlug Classic: www.aduf.org/viewtopic.php?t=182194 )

I would have advised you to get the FreePlug Classic:
- 200 mbps
- Completely compatible with FreePlugs
- 20 to 30 euros cheaper than the dLAN 200 and others

Available in your Free management interface ("Shop")

Thank you MrClay,
I followed your advice but without success. So I just ordered a freeplugs classic.
At least with Free, we know who to talk to.

As for Fnac, thanks for the pretense of advice! IT is like finance, many talk about it and fill their pockets at the expense of poor users who don't know much...

Hello,
the link to the aduf tutorial is not responding. Do you have a link to share with me?
Indeed, I purchased 2 classic freeplugs (and not 1 freeplug with power supply and 1 classic) and I don’t know how to get them to work.

Thank you in advance for your help.

What happens when you go on it?
Try with Firefox (preferably) and Internet Explorer.

Whether it’s the FreePlugs or the FreePlug Classic, for the two to communicate, they need to be paired.

Excerpt from the aduf tutorial:
* b- Adding a FreePlug Classic to an existing network:
Here, the method is similar to pairing two FreePlugs.
You just need to follow a certain order to ensure they’re paired correctly.
- Plug the FreePlug and the FreePlug Classic into the same power strip
- Press the black button on the FreePlug: the green LED flashes
- Press the red button on the FreePlug Classic: the button flashes, changing color
- Wait for the button on the FreePlug Classic to turn green (this may take 1 minute)

For you, since you don’t have a FreePlug, but just 2 FreePlug Classics, you will need to:
- Plug the 2 FreePlug Classics into the same power strip
- Press and hold the red button on the 1st FreePlug Classic for 2 to 5 seconds
- Press and hold the red button on the 2nd FreePlug Classic for 2 to 5 seconds
the button will flash, changing color, on the FreePlug Classics after a while.

The goal is to have the green button lit on both FreePlug Classics.
this can take up to 2 minutes in very rare cases, so you really need to be patient, even if you have the impression that nothing is happening!

If you don’t get the green button on both FreePlug Classics, hold down the button on the 1st FreePlug Classic for about 20 seconds, and do the same on the 2nd FreePlug Classic.
Then, try the pairing again...

Hello,

I am on PC. I have a Freebox V5 without the freePlugs.

I just received 2 classic freeplugs. I tried to install them as indicated above by Mr. Clay, but it doesn't work. No one mentions it above, but I think, and that's what I did, that I need to connect the ethernet cables from each classic freeplug, isn't it?

I rebooted the classic freeplugs several times but ...nothing improved. I notice that when I reboot, it seems to work for one but not for the other.

What should I do?

Bob

Hi,
you mean ... connecting the 2 freeplugs with an Ethernet cable?
no, it won't be of any use to you (unless you create a loop if they synchronize)
try the pairing procedure again as indicated, otherwise return the one that doesn't seem to respond correctly to Free's customer service for an exchange.

and ... Voila!

No, I connected each of the 2 FreePlug Classic to one of the 5 Ethernet ports on the back of the Free Box.
I also plugged the power cable of each FreePlug Classic into the same power strip.

No, I connected each of the 2 FreePlug Classic to one of the 5 Ethernet ports on the back of the Free Box.
it's even worse:
it creates a loop in the network (if they work), it can block the switch integrated into the Free Box.

and ... there you go!

Indeed, if 5 PCs are grouped together, it is better to use a switch.
Besides, it costs much less :)

But if you have a very large house, and the PCs are scattered throughout the villa, then the 5 FreePlug Classics are what you need :D

In reality, the number 5 was just an example, so that we easily understand how many FreePlug Classics to buy ;)
