Hello,
I have a problem with Call of Duty 4
when I connect to a server it displays "waiting for the authorization of the serial number", it waits 11 seconds and cancels my connection.
Furthermore, when I refresh the server list, it says "waiting for a response from the main server"
3/4 of an hour later I'm still waiting for that response
can you explain the problem to me?

Like everyone who has posted messages on this site, it should get sorted out in the coming hours or by tomorrow! But don't do anything, don't uninstall your game, it's pointless. Just wait, it's coming from their server or the providers, but not from your side. Good luck!
I thought about it in the meantime and I wondered, if this has happened to several people, maybe it could come from the provider. As for me, I'm with Free. And you? Maybe the providers did something (I don’t know what, but I’m looking).
Same problem as you since last night and I have a completely different connection in Belgium (Belgacom)
I also think a lot more about Activision than about our internet providers, are they preventing us from playing? :p
But it is also true that they could have just sent an email to tell us what was going on.

I was playing yesterday too, I took a 20-minute break and when I wanted to go back to one of the servers I regularly use, I got the same message. I tried others but it was the same everywhere. So I uninstalled COD4 and reinstalled it. I rebooted my modem and my computer. I checked my firewall and antivirus to see if anything was blocking, but nothing. Plus, now even when I refresh my server list, nothing shows up. It's weird because between the time it was working and the time it stopped, I didn't touch anything on the computer at all.
My searches on the internet haven't yielded anything so far, so if anyone has found something... help us pleeeeaaase

I experienced the same thing since last night, and two friends from my team also can't connect to certain servers...
same for me I can connect to a Finnish server but otherwise nothing

Some people on my team managed to fix it just by rebooting the box, but it doesn’t work for me. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s a huge hassle!!

Same for me, since last night, I can no longer connect to a large part of the servers! There is one that I can connect to (I found it with perseverance ^^). For my account, I am with Bluewin (Switzerland)...
Otherwise, with xfire I can go on servers but now I have no servers through cod4 anymore

I called Activision France and they told me they noticed the issue because their own computers can't connect either; they hope it will be fixed tonight, but it's not looking good.
