You can also download NeoOffice. I managed to open docx files several times.

OpenOffice version 3 (free and open-source software)
allows you to retrieve files in docx format.
      It is compatible with MAC.

Uh... I just realized by chance today that by double-clicking on a docx... it opens quite naturally with Pages '08 version 3.0.3!!! If this can help someone... :-)

Thank you, but this isn't working! I've downloaded everything possible... and the converter won't accept this file. On the other hand, Open Office refuses as well. I'm stubborn but still desperate!!! Have a good day.

    Hello,

If I may intrude into the conversation...

A large software creation company has once again taken the initiative to create a new standard incompatible with most software, including, at least for a time, with older versions of its own products.

Press your correspondents not to save documents in these formats, it's possible! .. and if they resist, systematically return the problematic files to them.

    Best regards.

      Hello,

Yes, that's a very good point. It's important to know that these formats have already been criticized many times, especially by the leading scientific publication journals.

Thank you for the compliment :-)

I smell commercial tactics in these methods... well, never mind, I’ll drop the off-topic.

        Best regards.

Uh... isn't the problem coming from your document by any chance?
Because it is clearly stated in there:
    https://www.conv2pdf.com/
That docx documents are supported. I've even experienced it several times.

Likewise, under Open Office version 2.4.1, I have no trouble opening a docx file.
