Messenger - Loss of my contacts list Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
following the installation of Windows Live Messenger on my mobile, I logged in and needed to sync my contacts.
It seems there was an issue during this synchronization, and I'm left with a nice empty list of contacts, which I can't retrieve anywhere (Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Windows Live Messenger).
My contact list has been completely and utterly deleted.
I contacted Microsoft to see if I could recover at least part of my contact list; I'm still waiting for a response.

I'm not looking for a solution on this forum, I don't think you can do anything since the operations are carried out on their servers.
I'm just letting you know that before installing WLM on PPC, make sure to export your contact list.

I just realized that by going to: Options > Privacy we find our contacts, even the deleted ones. Now all that's left is to add them back manually.

They replied to me, but to keep it simple, when you're in Privacy, just right-click on the contact to add it. And for your information, the contacts you add this way do not receive the notification to add you since they've already done it.

Hi everyone. So I have the solution for those who lost their contacts after installing Windows Live Messenger 9. So follow these steps carefully:
1- Uninstall Windows Live Messenger that you installed.
2- Delete all traces of this version, under program files remove the Windows Live folder.
3- Copy this link into your address bar:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/d/2/6d299eac-7d56-4b42-acba-d7d05ada8a1b/FR/WLinstaller.exe
4- Then save your file on your PC
5- Click on this file to run it, follow the steps
6- In the page that opens where you are asked to choose the products to install, select: messenger and mail then click on (add to installation)
7- You must be connected, it is mandatory for the components to install online
8- Wait, then downloading and installation are finished. close
9- And there you have it, MSN opens, enter your details and here is your contact list back.
Finally, I just ask each person who has solved their problem to reassure me by message, because I encountered the same problem.

Hi everyone, I also have the same problem; I can't recover my contacts on Windows Live Messenger 2009. So I went back to MSN 7.5. I'll give you the solution to start MSN 7.5.
1 Install MSN 7.5
2 Right-click on the MSN icon on the desktop
3 Properties
4 Compatibility
5 Uncheck to activate Windows 200 instead of Win95
6 Apply OK
And you will see that MSN 7.5 works without asking for that critical update crap.

Hello everyone, I encountered the same problem as you: the loss of all my MSN contacts. However, you will notice that your contact list is intact in your Hotmail inbox. I found an intermediate solution. I hope it will suit you:

-Log into your Hotmail inbox.
-Go to options and then to "more options"
-In the "Personalization of your contacts" section, click on "Export contacts".
-Type the 8 digits and then save the contacts.

You have just saved your contacts in .CSV format. To import them into WLM 2009, you need to convert this file to .CTT format.

To do this conversion, go to the site

Select your file from "browse" and then click on "Submit!". You can thank the guy who created this amazing conversion site^^.

Alright, we are almost there! Now, log into WLM 2009, go to "contacts" and then to "import messenger contacts" and open the CTT file.

Congratulations, it's done.
Drawback: you have to wait for your contacts to accept you, and your groups have disappeared.

And as for me, I have the ideal solution for this problem!
It took me hours of searching, but I finally found that the solution is to download MSN Messenger 7.5!
After that, they will ask you to install a new existing version, and then click yes!
Afterwards, an automatic download bar will appear, which is for Windows Live Messenger!
After the download, you will see that during the installation, the required space on the disk is 117 MB!
As for the other version available for download on the internet, it only requires 49 MB.
And there you go, after installation, the problem will be solved and you will have all your contacts!
P.S.: don't forget to uninstall Windows Live Messenger from your PC before installing MSN Messenger 7.5!

try downloading wlm v 8.1. It works every time, even if it sometimes closes by itself, but hey, it’s better than a lost contact list.

Hello everyone!

For me, the problem is absolutely not resolved; despite using Houcine's technique (the installation of mail and messenger freezes at 99%...) or Zaidoun's (even though I set the compatibility of MSN 7.5 for Windows 2000, I still get the message that an update to WLM 2009 is necessary...), nothing works. All previous versions won't function anymore, even after properly uninstalling WLM 2009; I am repeatedly asked to download the latest version... As for WLM 2009, I have installed it 5 times, adopting Messenger + mail, then just Messenger, but it still doesn't allow me to view my contact list (while with Windows messenger (not MSN or WLM), I can see it, same in my hotmail inbox).

It's a bottomless pit...and I'm not exaggerating! I was forced to download an update that ultimately deprives me of messenger...Hallelujah!

So if anyone has the same issue as I do, or thinks they know where the problem comes from, please let me know!

P.S.: I want to remind you that I tested the solutions presented in this topic (especially Houcine's, which seemed to work).

For those who want to install Windows Live Messenger 2009 without losing their contacts, you need to erase any traces of Windows Live, then search for version 2009. After installation and before launching WLM 2009, download the file faultrep.dll, copy this file to C>program files>windows live>contacts, and finally launch your messenger.
