Bookmark .json on Firefox 3?

Hello,

I've lost my bookmarks.

I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (3), and I've lost all my previous bookmarks.

So I go to the folder where all my bookmarks are located.

All the bookmarks now have the json extension; before, it was something else.

And when I click on them, it opens a page via the internet, but nothing displays. I can't see my bookmarks; I only see a written phrase.

It looks like this: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":12138......,"lastModified":12138......,"type":"text/x-moz-place-container","root":"place............................

Can you tell me how to recover my old bookmarks????

And also how to back them up in case of problems with Mozilla Firefox????

Thank you and have a good weekend.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 3.0.1

Hello,

To restore bookmarks in .json:

Firefox version 3.0.10:

Bookmarks then Organize Bookmarks then Import and Backup then Restore then choose a file.

A simple way I found:
put the .json file (in this case, mine had a recent date, if necessary rename it to match an existing one)
in the folder where Firefox stores them to overwrite one (note the date of the file you overwrote)
(ps under ubuntu the folder is: /home/[user]/.mozilla/firefox/[1.abcde.default]/bookmarkbackups/)

and then in "Organize Bookmarks" > "Import and Backup" > "Restore" and choose the date corresponding to the file you inserted!

and as if by magic, here is the return of all your bookmarks.

Hello
so it's really simple, you go to bookmarks> organize bookmarks> Import and Backup> restore> choose file and there you go to where your Bookmark.json is and that’s it

I lost all my bookmarks yesterday after an update to 3.6.13 and I could no longer mark any pages.
And it was impossible to restore (file unable to process).

After a long search, I simply reinstalled the latest version of Firefox and I found all the functions and all my bookmarks.

Bookmarks in json are for Firefox 3.0. Firefox 2 used bookmarks in html.
Can't you directly import and select your json file in Firefox?

When I go to Mozilla, file / import, it only offers to recover my bookmarks from IE and I don't use IE.

MY QUESTION is that I want to retrieve an old bookmark.json file and do not want to replace it with the bookmarks I currently have (the new ones) but to complete it because I couldn't recover all my bookmarks!!!!

So how can I read this file?

In the bookmarks/menu organizer, you have the option to import HTML.
Now, to get the HTML file from an old JSON, try this: https://json.bloople.net/

I did what you told me about bookmarks / organizing and restoring....

I went back to an old bookmark json from a few days ago and I found the file / folder I was missing (it's a folder where I had put bookmarks because I created several folders where I put and classified links), I copied the folder and returned to my latest current bookmark json and pasted the folder containing internet links and it’s good now, it worked, so I didn't lose the current bookmarks.

Now, I would like to know if there is a way to back them up in case of a problem??? Is there an application you would recommend I install from Mozilla?

In fact, bookmarks are automatically saved by Firefox. The proof is that you succeeded ;). But otherwise, you can force a backup in the Bookmarks menu, Organize. There is a save option.

Alright, actually I've never been here because I thought it was just for organizing bookmarks (sorting or tidying them up). Now I see that I can save or restore them through this link. Thank you very much, it took some time but it's all good :)

No problem. Can you mark it as "resolved"?

A huge, huge, huge, huge, huge THANK YOU!!!
A cursed virus crashed my system. A friend had to reinstall the system temporarily (while waiting for a fix) and the internet favorites were backed up but not those from Firefox. Very unfortunate, I followed the steps above, and I found everything!! THANK YOU THANK YOU,,

I promise now I will work completely differently!! I’m no longer the clueless chick in this situation,,

I renamed the file "bookmarks" created by Firefox to "bookmarks.json" (I just added .json to the file name) and restored from that file.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention....

I no longer have HTML bookmarks, they are all now in JSON....

Simply put, I would like to be able to open a bookmark that is in JSON and is several days old, but I can't open it....

Open it with Notepad for example, don’t double-click on it!

I couldn't find Notepad, so I opened it with WordPad, and it puts everything in one line.... I'll have to search for them and it'll take me time.....

Tell me why before, with the old version of Mozilla, I could open the HTML bookmark which opened directly (on the internet) and I could drag it to the left quickly

And now, with this new version, why is nothing displaying with these HTML bookmarks?

Is there a way to save them????

I'm so frustrated, I have tons of them.

Actually, yes, it shows up, but it's in a different format!

Otherwise, have you tried this: https://www.clubic.com/forum/t/resolu-perdu-mes-marque-pages-dans-firefox-3/212809

Good evening everyone. I have the same problem, Firefox 3 suddenly made all my bookmarks disappear... only when I try to recover them using the method above, it says "unable to process the backup file"

Thank you all for your help :)

I only have one chance left to recover my bookmarks
it's with the .json (that's my 7 years of bookmarks inside)
it's impossible for me to restore it with this Firefox 3
before with version 2,
it worked perfectly
I think Firefox 3 has become crap with all the pointless updates, it pisses me off.

firefox + the more it advances the more it becomes a pain

here's the proof in the image

https://i75.servimg.com/u/f75/11/85/90/67/captur12.jpg

the format used is .json
since .html doesn't want to be saved these days

(don't tell me to go to this folder or that one, I've already done everything, there's nothing to be done)

what the developers should implement is a converter from:
.json to .html or (another similar format for restoring or reading directly)

I've been piling up my bookmarks for over 5 years, if I lose them I might as well end it
it's just impossible to remember everything

they should call this firefox 3
bookmarks that go haywire, back to IE

Hello,
Well, I’m coming to this discussion quite late!
Still, it’s really nice to see that you’ve worked hard and managed to find a solution to recover the Firefox 3 Bookmarks!
I’ve been through a lot...
Three weeks ago, my hard drive “exploded”… I couldn’t boot up, and when I tried to restore with a Norton Ghost backup, I found out it was impossible because there was no hard drive!!! In fact, a technician rebuilt a new system for me... because the partition table was destroyed! I managed to recover everything except for my system disk and its contents.
Of course, I had been missing my usual backups for 2 months...
I painstakingly retrieved some crucial files from my last backup of C: (on January 4, 2009); this was the operation I just repeated to recover my last json file and restore it with “organize bookmarks”!
It worked, so I also have to say thank you to everyone who participated in this discussion

I did as you mentioned, but it tells me I don't have any bookmarks
and I can't even add new bookmarks, and I've reinstalled Mozilla but it doesn't change anything

I've lost all my favorites and it won't even add those from IE

There's a problem here!!!

Good evening everyone, happy to see that you have recovered your "assets". There is also another solution to retrieve
your configuration on Firefox 3.0.10: you need to download and install the following add-on:
FEBE 6.1 Backup your Firefox data. Once installed and scheduled, it will make a copy of your Firefox configuration and place it in a file, and in case of issues, you can reinstall your configuration.
For your favorite tags, if you create them yourself, they can be found in the history. Just open > click on view history and everything is there.
Ok Bye a+
