car radio overheating issue

Hello everyone;

I’m writing because I have an issue with my car radio, let me explain:

I just got a TAKARA GPV 1004 car radio, it works pretty well but the problem is that it heats up very quickly which triggers a whistling noise from the fan that is very annoying. I went back to where I bought it but they can’t do anything because it’s a new model and they themselves don’t know if this whistling is normal or not.

And I was wondering if it could be related to the ground?
(since I connected my car radio myself and I took the ground from the screw at the back of the unit, wouldn’t it be better to take it from the black wire (ground) of the car radio)
Could having a poor ground cause my unit to heat up?
What other reasons could cause my unit to heat up?

I want to point out that the car radio plays DVDs and normally I should connect the ground to the handbrake but then I can’t watch DVDs while driving (I want to be able to watch DVDs while driving specifically for the kids (my daughter in this case))

Hello

I have the same problem as you, I don’t think it’s due to the weight
personally I think I will return it to the store (boostore) for an exchange
otherwise maybe unplugging the fan and connecting a larger, quieter one, but then the warranty is void (to be considered)

Hello, I'm also having the issue with the whistling fan!! I tried to take apart the fan but I can't manage it because I have to practically disassemble everything, and I don't want to get into that!!
Has anyone found a solution (fan replacement,.....)

I think I'm going to unplug this *!*§&* fan to put in a passive cooling system and/or a bigger heatsink
But then goodbye warranty
the takara site doesn't even mention this device
I called them and they said they don't have any feedback on this issue for now and that they would put the device on their site
they're outrageous!!!

tinkering with a device that costs €340 is ridiculous!!! the engineers can't even design a system free of defects

maybe they designed this model in Alaska where the fan didn't need to kick in ???

Hi, it's clear that as soon as you turn on the device, the fan starts up right away!! It's so annoying!! You have to turn up the volume to not hear it!!
I tried with a bigger fan (since I can't find the same fan as the original from the car radio) but they still make noise!! I'm desperate!! If anyone has a solution (if someone has disconnected the fan and hasn’t had any issues, please say so: it means this fan is useless!!!)

Takara responds that the model is recent and for them they do not have the necessary hindsight.
I can no longer return my device apart from the customer service, which will keep it for X weeks for nothing.
I think there is more of a design flaw!!!

I didn't have the time this weekend to take care of it because of major work in my house that takes priority, but this noise is driving me crazy so........too bad for the warranty

lol!! like me, no guarantee!!
I got the car radio working with the lid open at home but the noise remains pretty much the same!! it's just the fan that whistles!! because when I blocked it, there was no more noise!!! it would be great if it stayed like that!!!
I don't know where to find very very quiet fans that are small enough!!!
if someone knows, thank you for keeping me informed!!!!

Hi

maybe a passive radiator?!? glued with thermal paste to the existing one
the goal being to cool down the beast

I've done a few things that might help
I have a climate-controlled getaway
the unit happens to be below my front ventilation grille
I made a few holes in the plastic inside which allows air (whether air-conditioned or not) to pass underneath as well, and this also allows for better heat dissipation from the unit

We'll see in use what it gives

Hi everyone, sorry for not replying sooner, I just got back from vacation.

Unfortunately, no, I haven't found a solution. I'm considering installing a cooling system for the PC since I took the 3-year warranty, so at worst I'll wait for it to fail and it will be replaced.

Indeed, a PC cooling module, why not, it could work too
Takara has released the model 1007
Go on Google and you will see it
Maybe a swap with this newer model (but also uglier)

For your information, this model is also identical to BELSON's model ( NAVIX-450 )
The user manual is better explained and detailed than TAKARA
Does it make any noise?????

Small question:

When the radio mode is activated, when you are listening to music, and you switch to GPS mode, do you hear the GPS voice instructions??? Because I don't
I have to turn off the music (or the news) to hear the GPS voice
Do you also have this problem????

Hello, for the GPS function during the radio (and vice versa), I have no issues!! Go check the after-sales service!!

I find the model Takara GPV 1007 good with its large screen!! But it is still a bit more expensive!! Then you have to see: does it also make a lot of noise???

Has anyone found a solution regarding the fan?? (sorry I haven't had much time to work on that lately!!!!)

Problem solved, I can now hear the GPS voice instructions thanks to the firmware update. Now I just need to fix this fan noise issue.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Hello

I had an escape, and I had to cut and file down a plastic bottom that served as a stop for the previous radio set
this gave me more depth which is useful for stuffing all those cables and also ensuring better ventilation (it heats up the beast and the fan is loud)

Here it is, my car radio is installed, of course by the mechanic! GPS antenna above the gauges! Had to tape all the cables to make it fit! In short, a bit of a hassle! I won't tell you to do it yourself ^^ Anyway, other than the installation, it's perfect!
