but where is your tape cut??

if it's towards the end that's fine, you have a very simple pin to put in and it won't show; and if unfortunately you are in the middle no luck the tape remains the least expensive solution.

if you're repairing the tape yourself, make sure to put the tape on the back side of the band and ensure that the tape doesn't extend beyond the ends of the band. I also recommend cutting the two ends of the tape that need to be joined at an angle to make it easier to pass through the video drum. Be careful not to cut too much of the tape; otherwise, the sound will become desynchronized from the video.

The tape + scissors (to cut the two parts at an angle) is a very good solution that has proven itself. Just make sure to stick the two parts on the matte side of the tape (the back). You may lose one or two images, but you won't notice it.

A good piece of tape is still the best solution. That's how movies were edited, and it held up well. The magnetic tape suffers mainly when you stop and restart abruptly, not when it runs continuously.
Your repair will hold up long enough to make your capture or copy onto another tape.

There will be a glitch during the repair process, but even a pro couldn't do better. What's lost is lost!

I had the same thing happen except that it was my VCR that cut it off and I acted like an idiot by pressing fast forward :( - and now my tapes won't match up and they're stuck in the casing, and the worst part is I can't open this cassette, it was the first time I was watching this movie (it's from 1994) and so by trying to take out this cassette I broke it!!!! Help me!!!

I am in the situation mentioned earlier, that is to say, I have a U8 cassette (Kodak P5-60) from an old VCR that was stolen from me over 10 years ago; I managed to find at least one cassette with important footage and I would like to transfer it to DVD - I entrusted this to a professional in Bayonne who returned it to me with the comment: "stuck cassette causing a tape break during rewinding before copying: no transfer possible!" - from the outside, the cassette doesn’t seem damaged - does anyone have a solution for me? Salut, a band like a film, it can be re-glued by overlapping the strips and it sticks with acetone which dissolves the film. To help you out, you can borrow your wife's nail polish remover; if you don't have a wife, no repair is possible lollllllll. Merry Christmas!

I have everything I need at home: wife, acetone, etc... and some appropriate tools... but in the field of tape transfer... nothing!

No need to make a transfer, just open a new tape and rewind it by hand, then you can rewind it onto the machine and it should go fine. You probably had a blockage due to a plastic burr; that's the reason for the tape breakage, it happened to me.

I'm digging up this topic a bit, but it might help me....

Here's my issue:

I am currently in the process of transferring my old VHS tapes to DVD. The transfer and playback of the tape was going normally until the VCR jammed, ejected the tape with the tape coming out of the casing and cut in half.
A bit panicked, I looked on forums and followed your advice about the tape. I made sure to put everything back as it was with the tape secured, but now, when I play back my repaired tape, I have sound but no image!! A gray screen as if there’s nothing recorded on the tape (yet the sound plays normally!!!!)

What can I do? Did I put the tape back in upside down? Everything looks to be put back together normally and in the most logical way.
How can I tell if the tape is correctly reassembled? Do you have a guide to reassemble a VHS or a solution to my problem??
