Hello,
I'm having trouble getting Star Wars Pod Racer to work properly on my PC.
I'm experiencing graphical bugs that create black streaks in the menu and white spaces in the races.

I have exactly the same problem as you!!
The black screen for ship selection and the white screen during the race.
I also have an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS graphics card.
Have you found the solution to the problem?? -
Yeah, this game is really awesome. I used to play it on my W98 and I wanted to play a little part again but on my Vista. And there... that's the drama lol.
Anyway, I'll keep you updated if I find the solution and if you can do the same in return that would be cool ;-)
See you later! -

Star Wars Racer works under Vista. The problem comes from the association of Vista with the drivers of certain graphics cards:
I tested it with several cards, with the additional handicap that I absolutely need low profile cards.
- Star Wars Racer works well with the Radeon HD2400Pro PCI-E under Vista. Fine for the AGP Radeon 9600Pro
- But it does not work with Nvidia (7500 LE or 8600 GT for example) while it works under XP with these cards.
It does not work with the Radeon HD3450Pro either. Maybe a problem with TurboCache?
If anyone finds out what’s wrong under Vista with the Nvidia, I’m interested because I’ve done all possible settings.
Since I don’t want to use an HD2400 because of Crysis, I’m going to get a Radeon HD2600XT from the United States, which is from the same generation as the HD2400Pro but also as powerful as an 8600 GT to see how it works. Otherwise, I haven’t tested with the Radeon HD3650 and above but I fear that it won’t work like the HD3450.
In summary, under Vista you should not have a GeForce, and I can only guarantee the Radeons up to the HD2400Pro for now.
Otherwise, if someone finds out how to adjust Nvidia settings in the meantime, that would save me some money.- Hi,
I just bought a nice laptop with an ATI, having read that this game would work... but the game doesn't run with an ATI HD 3650. What a disappointment...
Unfortunately, I read this post too late, otherwise I would have chosen an Nvidia.
Anyway, I have the original drivers on it and I haven't changed anything except for the resolution, and I've installed the patches.
So, any news on getting it to run under Vista with an ATI 3650????
Thanks in advance.

Two days ago I had the same problem. Well, it's still not solved, but a small piece of information: on Vista, the game doesn't work with Nvidia cards because they are too powerful. I'm still looking for a solution and I'll pass it on to you.

Lol well, it's very good! I have a GeForce NVIDIA 8400 GS! -_-'
Plus, in the menu, it's perfect! And then when I get to the ship selection, I see everything in black, with a bit of image! lol! And during the race: Well then -_-' !! I see the countdown to the start, the shadow of my ship, and then my life! And the rest of the screen is all white!!
So if someone can help me too, that would be great! Because I'm a big STAR WARS fan! XD
Thanks in advance ++

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with
-1G of RAM
-nvidia Geforce fx 5100..
=====> white screen at launch countdown...very frustrating because it's clear that the game is
really nice, even though it's not new..
Is it too old for our setups? (I doubt it, it's not X-Wing!) or incompatibility issues with win XP?
I'm looking, I'm looking...if someone has information in the meantime, it would be welcome...
May the force be with you-

No, not yet! =(
Plus, I wanted to play it so much! ^^
I had already played it at my cousin's and it's really nice! Xd
But I'm still looking for the problem! Snif -
Hi, I downloaded the latest drivers and then I clicked on the Star Wars Racer icon, then on hardware configuration, then I changed the display settings and set it to the same display as my PC (for me it's 1280 x 1024). To know the display of the PC, you have to go to start, then control panel, and it’s Intel Extreme Graphics, and it’s right there (screen).

Playing Star Wars Racer and Crysis on the same machine under Vista: it's possible
Since my last post about the possibility of playing Star Wars Racer on Vista, the situation has worsened.
Even some Radeons HD2400 pro no longer allow you to play this game. It might be a driver or DirectX issue.
It must be acknowledged that this old game from 1999 no longer works with recent cards.
Only integrated Intel chipsets under Vista and low-end cards under XP still allow playing it.
But there is still a solution to upgrade your machine and particularly have a decent graphics card to play recent games while continuing to enjoy our favorite game:
[u]1.- Essential prerequisites/u
- A BIOS that allows you to enter the setup showing the type of graphics card displayed by default at startup (in the setup, go to "advanced BIOS setup", look for "initial display first" or something similar. You should have three options: "On board" which is the integrated graphics chipset, "PCI" for a possible PCI card, and "PEG" for your PCI Express card (you may also have "AGP" for older motherboards). If you have an "on board" option and an Intel chipset, that should be enough, and you can go directly to the last step. Otherwise, you must have a PCI option.
- An available PCI slot
- A PCI Radeon 9200 card like this one: http://www.surcouf.com/catalogue/ficheproduit.aspx?idproduct=9659146&idnoeud=2734 which you can find for €30 at Surcouf. Its advantage is that it installs on a PCI slot (beware, PCI cards are different from PCI Express. The slots are not the same), it is old but powerful enough to run under Vista and play Racer. However, it does not support Aero. I have personally verified that even AGP cards from the HD 3450 generation are not compatible. You really need a PCI card.
[u]2.- Preparing the PC/u
Since the 9200 is compatible with Vista but not with Aero, you will not be able to use Dreamscene or Flip 3D when you use it. Therefore, it is best to temporarily disable Dreamscene if you have Vista Ultimate or have modified it to install this software.
You also need to disable ATI Catalyst Control Center from Vista startup (via msconfig... startup etc..)
These two operations are not mandatory but will prevent any anxiety-inducing error messages.
Next, open the box and install the card in an available PCI slot. Do not connect it to the screen just yet.
Always on the PCI-Express card, restart Windows. It will install its own drivers for the Radeon 9200 SE (do not look for any other drivers on the disk provided or on the AMD site. They do not exist).
[u]3.- Dual boot/u
This is not a classic dual boot (choosing your OS at PC startup) but a graphical dual boot ;)
1.- Restart the PC and enter the setup to choose the startup graphics card. Choose PCI (the 9200 to play Racer) save the changes and exit. When the PC restarts, connect the screen to the PCI card.
Vista starts with this card. Reinstall Racer if it was already on the PC (be sure to keep your saves and drivers) and do not install the XP SP2 patches mentioned in previous posts. You do not need them, and they cause graphical bugs under Vista.
After choosing the default graphics driver and max resolution, you can play Racer like on the first day, but with all settings maxed out.
Enjoy!
2.- Tired of Racer, want to play Crysis on high? No problem.
Restart, go into the setup and change the startup card from PCI to PEG (PCI-express) or AGP if you have an AGP card.
Restart and reconnect your screen to the correct card.
Once Windows has started, you can re-enable Dreamscene and Catalyst Control Center (if applicable). To avoid unnecessary warnings, you can also go to Device Manager and disable your PCI card (it appears twice, you need to right-click and disable). You will re-enable it at your next race.
There you go. If you want to make life easier, you can also connect both cards to the same screen simultaneously if you have enough ports and possible connections on the screen (one DVI and one HDMI or one DVI and one VGA, for example).
And that’s it.
[i]P.S.
For those with an integrated Intel chipset, I think it's also possible to boot from there instead of the PCI card. It’s even simpler (no activation or deactivation issues). But I haven't tested it under Vista.
I think if you have an old AGP card from the 9250, 9550, and 9600 generations, it should also work, but it is rare for motherboards to have both AGP and PCI-E./i>

Hello, I also have the same display issue with Racer. I just saw the framed comment but I just installed Windows 7 and changed the graphics card to a Readon HD4350 and it still doesn't work. Only a blank screen and shadows.
The solution? Go back to XP

Some news about Racer.
Racer still runs on Windows 7 32 or 64 bits. For 64 bits, it's a bit complicated because the installer includes 16-bit lines that are not supported. Therefore, you need to download a modified installer for 64 bits here: http://www.markusegger.at/Software/Games/Default.aspx
Otherwise, if you don't want to change your graphics card, there are solutions that I've tested and that work:
emulate an N64 on PC (works very well) with Project 64
emulate a PS2 on PC (complicated and one race does not work) with PCSX2
emulate a Dreamcast on PC (complicated but possible) with NullDC
emulate an N64 on Android with N64oid (easy)
emulate a PC under Linux with Wine (I haven't tried it but I've heard it works)
On the other hand, what I haven't succeeded in is emulating a PC on a virtual machine.
