Hello everyone,
My computer is an IBM ThinkPad T40. Pentium M, Windows XP.
A brief introduction to the T40 can be found here: https://www.cnetfrance.fr/produits/ibm-thinkpad-t40-1004683.htm
I have already done numerous searches on this topic, but none of the proposed solutions are applicable to my situation...
The problem I am encountering is as follows: I can no longer access Windows, nor even the login page!!
I must clarify right away that the F5 key is inactive at this point for reasons I cannot explain. A boot in Safe Mode is therefore impossible!
No external devices are connected...
Situation 1: When I turn on my computer and leave the machine without pressing any buttons, the "IBM ThinkPad" logo appears with the message To interrupt normal startup, press the blue Access IBM button below it. And, this recurring message:
ERROR
1802 : Unauthorized network card is plugged in – Power off and remove the miniPCI network card.
After that, it is no longer possible to press any keys.
Situation 2: When I turn on my computer and press, when the logo appears, the button:
- Access IBM, the error message appears. Blocked!
- F12, the message Preparing Boot Device List, the same message appears. Blocked!
- Escape (Esc), a list scrolls:
CPU = Intel (R) Pentium (R) processor 1500Mhz
638K System RAM Passed
510M Extended RAM Passed
1024K Cache SRAM Passed

...
etc,) then: Initializing Intel (R) Boot Agent Version 4.1.07
PXE 2.1 Build 083 (WfM 2.0), RPL V2.74 and there, it blocks again!!
- F1, the message Entering IBM BIOS Setup Utility appears, then the error message... but still the possibility to enter the SETUP with the F1 key!
Only the IBM BIOS is accessible... more details will come soon.

I found the solution to the problem. I downloaded a CD made just for that: http://www.command-tab.com/mint/pepper/orderedlist/downloads/download.php?file=http%3A//www.command-tab.com/files/no-1802/no-1802-cd.zip
It’s an ISO image that you need to burn onto a CD (let me know if you don’t know how to do it). Then you boot from it, and it will ask you to type no-1802 and press enter.
Then I was able to reactivate my wireless network card and boot normally.
But I forgot that you need to disable it first...
So you said that you can enter the BIOS configuration. Once you access it, you press enter on <<config>>, then on <<network>>, then you scroll down and press enter on the wireless card, and you disable it. Then at my place, you need to click F10 to exit and save changes. (yes)
Then your computer should boot normally but without the wireless card. After that, you go through the steps I explained above.</network></config>

It works, method used on a Thinkpad T41
WARNING: INSTALL THE NEW WIFI CARD AFTER USING NO-1802!
boot from the CD, type "no-1802" when prompted.
turn off the computer, install the wifi card,
it's all good.

Hi everyone, I have the same problem as ARD
- Wake on LAN
Current setting
- Flash Over LAN
Current setting
- Internal Network Option ROM
Current setting
I have tried your methods but with no result, so I’m thinking about changing my network card... Can I know how, please?
I need my computer; it’s very important, please.

I have the same problem. But I managed to start by disabling the wireless network card in the BIOS. Now my problem is that I can no longer use the wireless.
I have the same problem. If anyone has a tip...
My computer is my work tool and my geographical situation doesn't allow me to get it repaired.
Thanks a lot to the generous soul.

Hello,
I don't know if your problem is resolved, but I might have a solution that worked for me.
I have an IBM X31 and I was getting the same error message.
1) Turn on the PC
2) Press the "IBM Access" key to access the setup.
3) I disabled the two network adapters in the BIOS
4) Save the settings
5) Restart okay
Hoping this resolves your problem at least to restart Windows.
Good luck

Good evening and thank you both for your messages!!
But since all the BIOS SETUP commands are in English,
could you please precisely indicate the path to follow?
I have tried making some deactivations
but apparently they are not the right ones...
Could you give me your own configuration?
Or a standard configuration to disable the wifi?
I would be very very grateful to you!!
Have a good evening and see you soon,
VinyBoot.

Yes, I have a T30 and I'm trying your method but I can't find <<'' the wireless card ''>>.
I'm doing everything just as you described except that when I go into << Network >> it gives me three choices
- Wake on LAN
Current setting
- Flash Over LAN
Current setting
- Internal Network Option ROM
Current setting
I've tried disabling everything but my computer still won't start.
I'm eagerly waiting for a response.
Thank you in advance.
