Hello,
I can't open a wbk file that I received. Do I happen to need Word which I don't have?
My only word processor is OpenOffice which is enough for me as I mainly do graphic design and writing without any specific formatting.
Thank you for informing me if you can.

The response is a bit late but it may be useful to someone:
Show file extensions (in Folder Options) and rename by replacing wbk with doc, docx, rtf or odt if you are using Open Office.
It's very simple and quite handy for the non-experts we have all been at some point.

thank you very much
Thank you.
The person who sent me the file has Word on XP, not on Linux.
I have OpenOffice on XP.
How can I open this wbk file? I have tried various methods. Without success.
Have a good day. Maybe see you later.

The simplest thing would be for her to send you the .doc file instead of its backup copy, even if there might be a way to "recover" such a file...
Generally speaking, these files are not really intended to be read.
