Hello,
Here's my problem:
I have an HP pocket media drive external hard drive of 80 gigabytes that I bought less than a year ago.
I use it to transfer information from an XP to a Vista and vice versa, until now everything was fine.
But for the past few days, neither of my two computers recognizes this external hard drive! It's an unknown USB device. However, in its properties, it doesn't require any special drivers, and there was no CD or floppy disk provided with it. I can't find anything on the HP website.
I'm wondering if this might be due to my negligence in: safely removing the device...
Thank you in advance for your help!

You need to download this driver from the web, then try it out.

Hey there!
I'm bringing this topic back up because I just experienced the same issue:
I have a Vista HP Pavilion laptop with an HP hard drive to put in the bay. It worked perfectly for a year and two months. Since yesterday, it's no longer recognized...
When I plug it in, the hard drive light turns on, it spins, but XP tells me: "USB device not recognized." I've already tried a lot of things (disk management, etc.). When I go to the device manager, I have an "unknown device" (my hard drive), but it won't update the driver.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.- Hello,
I just had the same problem.
I must admit that for the past 2/3 months, the disk was sometimes making a strange noise.
The disk was under warranty and yesterday after 1h30 of phone calls with the numerous HP representatives, I was able to get it replaced. HP didn't even ask me to send mine back. So I conclude two things: 1. the problem was known and 2. the disk must be dead otherwise they would have repaired it for me.
What's crazy is that I bought an HP Pavilion to have a hard drive that wouldn't be at risk of falling (bad experience with an old hard drive) and ultimately, without ever leaving the HP pocket, it is dead.
Unfortunately, I think your disks are dead and your data is lost. The read head must have broken and every time you turn on the disk, it mechanically scratches the disk and deteriorates the data.
Good luck.

Same kind of problem for me, I just bought this product and I can't get it to work, the PC doesn't recognize the external hard drive and it's asking me to install drivers... I don't understand why. -

Hello! I don't know if I'm in the right place but that's okay! So I have an HP Pocket Media Drive 250GB and when I connect it to my PC it's recognized but I can't access it; it appears as a folder and not as a hard drive!
Could you please tell me what to do?
Thanks in advance!
