My attempts to execute or download RstAssociations Version .scr resulted in the following message: "No program is associated with this file to perform this action. Install a program or, if it is already installed, create an association in the Control Panel - Default Programs."

Best regards.

Download this file --> seven_lnk.reg
and place it on the desktop.

Then restart by tapping F8 or F5 to go into --> safe mode.

Upon arrival, right-click on the file --> seven_lnk.reg, click on merge, accept even if there is an error message.

Then restart the PC.

Report:

I did as you instructed for the "seven" file: message after activation in safe mode "The keys and values contained in C:/Users/.../ Downloads/ Seven_ink.reg have been successfully added to the Registry": after rebooting and checking, my shortcut issues persist.
I noticed that the file "rstassociations" had been downloaded, despite the message mentioned above. After putting it on the desktop, I also tried to activate it in safe mode. Excerpt from the message after attempting to restore the .ink file: "the specified file cannot be found".

Best regards.

thank you for the forum, the issue mentioned above has also been my problem since this morning. After searching the web, I found the solution with mid00; the solution via the registry was effective for my Windows 7 version on an HPE 130 fr.
thanks again to you all

For your information, I had this issue. I tested the help via the registry key.
No results.
I tried a lot of little things.
No results.
Then I thought about doing a restore.
But before that, I made some changes with the software CCleaner.

The CCleaner software, after a scan of the registry and then a restart, resolved my issue.
For once, I find that this software is not so useless.
:)

Did you manage to download this RstAssociations Version .scr file and put it on the desktop?

No, it's impossible to download or run it (and therefore to put it on the desktop), as stated...

In safe mode, launch --> RstAssociations Version .scr
Click on --> all
Click on --> restore

Restart the PC.

Report:

I clicked on "all" and "restore" for RstAssociations in safe mode, with reboot and verification:
1) same message: "Error failed attempt to launch program or document. The current thread will exit. The specified file cannot be found."
2) The shortcut display issues remain.

Clarification: After cross-checking and researching (Event Viewer, Windows updates, Word file shortcut commands), I found that my shortcut issue occurred between May 26 and May 31, 2012, unless I am mistaken.

Sincerely.

There is probably an infection?

Open a new topic in the forum --> virus/security

Have your system checked to see if there is an infection.

Good luck.

The subject is already in "virus/security" / (top of the page)

Shortcut .lnk issues

I have no way to have my system checked for free. Therefore, I am waiting one or two days (waiting period for expected files) to restore.
Last details: I reinstalled Office 2010 (before writing my first message) without success. I had a problem with explorer.exe (indicating an issue with the system kernel: "send to desktop"), which was resolved and has not reappeared. That's what made me doubt the possible infection of a virus. I still have doubts...

Thank you for your follow-up anyway!

Best regards.
