Error 1628 Software

Hello, I have a problem, my error is error 1628 and I cannot install Age of Empires 3 or uninstall it because when I put the CD I only have 2 options. The first is Play, but when I press it it doesn’t work because I deleted all the AOE3 folders since I couldn't uninstall it, and the 2nd option is to uninstall but when I press it there is the InstallShield Wizard, then it writes preparing to install, then it starts and then it writes 1628 error unable to complete installation based on script. Why did I want to uninstall? well because when I played it bugged, I couldn't play online so I wanted to reinstall but now it doesn’t work I don’t know what to do, (before it worked) I used everything, c-cleaner, regcleaner but even that doesn’t work, thanks for helping me.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

    Hello

Just a point, (because I just read the topic and don’t understand everything)

Do you want to uninstall it or install it

In safe mode, it’s for the uninstall

Because if you can’t uninstall it and you try to reinstall over it, you’re not ready to succeed

Hi, so I’ll repeat it: I want to reinstall it, but when I put in the CD the window pops up and there are Play or Uninstall. When I click Play it doesn’t work because I had deleted all the files related to the game since I couldn’t uninstall. So since Play doesn’t work, I choose the other option, i.e., Uninstall. When I click it, InstallShield Wizard pops up, then it says preparing installation (it loads first, of course); then this window closes and another InstallShield window pops up and then disappears. And in the vicinity it’s the same but it says 1628: unable to complete installation based on the script at the end of the installation preparation in InstallShield Wizard.

So in conclusion, I don’t know if the game will uninstall or wants to install because I cleaned the registry with CCleaner and I also deleted all the files related to the game.

yes but when you had the key repaired, it must have deleted it

did you go into the options of ccleaner, to try to uninstall your game if it was there ?

In the options, I went there but there’s nothing, it’s like properties, cookies, customize, exclude and advanced there’s only that in there. which tab should I go to because in those tabs there’s nothing, am I supposed to add something?

    Hi
Try this, I have no other idea (think about showing hidden folders).
You delete all folders related to oem in:
    C:\Program Files\
    C:\Documents and settings\Your account\Application Data\

Or else, see what happens when you uninstall from the Windows uninstaller wizard.

Is your Windows up to date? Specifically the Windows Installer.
Take a tour on Windows Update and update everything.

    Hi
I asked for a bit of help because I wasn’t seeing anything at all.
Erase this file in Safe Mode.
And one quick question: do you have a mobile device synced with your PC?
There you go, that’s all for now...
    Bye

    PS: Thanks moska

Hi, hi, well, first of all I don’t know how to do this to delete this file in Safe Mode (don’t forget I’m only 14 xD) and you have a synchronized phone, I don’t get it :'( If you could tell me how to do all that or know lol thanks for willing to help because not many people have my type of problem. And you can say thanks to Moska or the people who help me as well please^^ unless they read this thx :-)

Hello again, well I installed an old game called Destin du dragon, I don’t know if you know it, because it’s for my little brother who wants to play this game. And at the installation, it’s niquel, you can even play but my concern might be whether I’m allowed to play or not, the thing is at the start of the installation I looked at the thing and it says InstallShield Wizard and the game runs so it’s not InstallShield Wizard that’s messing up I think. So in conclusion, InstallShield Wizard has nothing to do with the installation problem of Age of Empires 3, I think ^^'.

      Hi
To erase the file in Safe Mode, you tap F8 at startup on your PC. Don’t worry, everything will be different, that’s normal...
Regarding the synced mobile question, it was to know if you had a cellphone synced with your PC.
      See you later

After you restart your PC, it will boot normally. If it doesn’t, you’ll do this: start -> Run -> Type msconfig -> OK -> In the General tab you will select Normal startup - load all device drivers and services -> OK. Note all that, you won’t have internet access in Safe Mode. See you later. -- Some folks are born made to wave the flag, ooo, they're red, white and blue. ok, it’s normal for your error since you tried to manually delete the files, the problem is that traces remain on the PC

you need to delete it properly and once done, you can reinstall it

    you install CCleaner

then you put your PC in Safe Mode

you run CCleaner (in the options tab) to uninstall the program

and then you run the registry mode to delete and repair the keys

If there are any, but it’s on the extension and I’ve uninstalled the extension but it’s still there. Should I delete it? Oh wait, I just saw there’s something named age for empire.msi but when I double-click, Windows Installer opens and it says preparing to install but then it writes that I can’t install from this file, I have to install with the setup. (I’ve already tried exploring the CD and installing everything to the hard drive but still nothing.)

    Hello,

I’m chiming in here just to offer another suggestion.
MSI files are quite particular; they leave traces everywhere.
The only tool that truly uninstall everything is Windows Installer Clean Up (made by Microsoft):
    https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/help/290301

You install it, then run it and in the list you should find your game.
You click on the line and choose remove.
This operation will delete all traces of your MSI.

hoping this solution is the right one!

    Hi

    did you delete
    PROGRAMFILES>\InstallShield Installation Information\{Product Code} directory

and it is absolutely necessary that you delete the MSI files related to the game

and then open the Cusco link

once you have done all that, disk defragmentation, disk cleanup, CCleaner

    Hello,

I’ve just read a bit about what you’re proposing as a solution for this error and there’s something that troubles me because I’m getting the same error as him on a formatted PC! (just installing the graphics card drivers and the sound driver)

The question I’m asking myself: could this problem come from a lack of XP updates? (I bought XP SP2 a week ago at Grosbill)

Try to redo all the procedures from the start (Microsoft link), one by one and calmly.. or attempt a system restore if you have a point before your "savage uninstall".

That will restore your computer to a previous state, and your personal files will not be erased.

      Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.

check "Restore my computer to an earlier time," and choose a date before you uninstalled the game... if possible.
