Hello,

If someone could help me! Thank you in advance.

When my computer starts up, before the Windows XP logo shows, it displays "CMOS setting wrong" and then it starts normally and works fine? Why does it say that?

    Hi, actually my computer is plugged into a power strip that I unplug from time to time! Do you think it could be coming from that?

      It all depends on how long you've had your computer and your motherboard.
      Do you know how to set the date and time in the BIOS? (You press Del when your computer starts, then you look around a bit, it's not very complicated, use + and - to set the time)

      Do you know how to do a clear CMOS or are you a bit worried about having to open the computer?

        I've had the computer for 3 or 4 years!
        You might sense it, but it's true that I don't know much about the BIOS, so I should be able to set the date and time; however, doing a clear setup is more complicated for me...

        To be honest, it's quite simple to do, but in your case, its usefulness is rather limited. In principle, your problem should persist if you keep turning off the power strip. Well, after that, your motherboard needs to draw just a tiny, tiny bit of electricity to keep the modified values, and I don’t know if all motherboards do that.

        I did as you told me:
        I went into the BIOS and checked the time which was correct so no need to modify it, I then saved the BIOS and exited.
        I then restarted the computer, it didn't show anything regarding the CMOS setting wrong but the black screen with some text before the Windows XP logo is no longer there, is that normal????

        Maybe the black screen you're talking about is scrolling faster than usual, because when you do Save and Exit, your PC reboots, so your PC is already warm to start up again ^^ (Theoretical theory :p). Completely turn off your computer and restart it. If it displays cmos setting wrong again, you should consider changing the battery!
