Hello,
I am new to computers and my internal hard drive has a small capacity: 40 GB. Also, my disk space is now low, and I can no longer work. I have therefore purchased an external hard drive to store my images and work data. I would like to create a shortcut on my internal hard drive's desktop to access my data on the external hard drive, namely my work documents, images, and photos, but I don't know how to do it. I would like my computer to save scanned documents directly to the external hard drive. The same goes for transferring photos from my camera to my computer. The idea is to keep my internal hard drive only for my programs. Another question: when I download music or movies, how do I make them save directly to the external drive? Indeed, I have little capacity on the internal one, which is currently partitioned into two. Who could help me?
Thank you very much for your response.
Best regards, Stéphanie.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello,
In my opinion, the simplest thing for now is to make the My Documents icon point to your external hard drive.
You just need to move your My Documents folder, by default.
Right-click on the My Documents icon on your desktop, then click on Properties. Click on Move and choose a folder, which you can call My Documents, on your external hard drive.
All your documents will be moved, it takes a little time but you will have space on your internal hard drive and your documents will be saved by default in this folder.
However, I would rather recommend adding an internal hard drive later; external drives are used for backups and file transfers, they are much slower and more fragile.
