no sound only with FIREFOX Solved/Closed

Question

Hello,
I'm going crazy. For the past 2 days, the sound has disappeared ONLY in Firefox. No issue in IE, everything works fine.
I absolutely don't understand, I haven't installed anything special.
Suddenly, YouTube, Dailymotion, Radioblog... there's no sound at all, I switch to Internet Explorer and everything works.

What's going on!???
Any ideas please, I've been searching in vain....

I may have a solution:

On Windows 7 (or Vista, I can't remember), when you click on the sound settings, you see a "link" called "mixer" and in the list of outputs, there is "Plugin Container for Firefox." Mine was set to minimum -.- I increased it and the sound worked ^^.

I have exactly the same problem for a few days now. And since IE is a piece of crap... it's starting to annoy me.
I don't know why, but yesterday I managed to get sound after restarting my computer, but since then... nothing!

I have exactly the same problem and I have no idea where it could be coming from.
I looked through all the options in Firefox without success.
But the thing is that it works with IE!
Maybe Mozilla has some issues, but I find that surprising.

I downloaded Adobe Flash Player from https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and it fixed the problem... don't ask me why!

Finally, I found the solution after a week of searching. Here, I uninstalled Firefox 2.0.012 and installed Firefox 3.0.b.3 here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-beta. I have sound!!!!

I had a similar problem, and in my case, the solution was really simple. After consulting a bunch of forums without success, I thought to check if my speakers were properly connected (which is usually the case). As luck would have it, someone had plugged the green wire into the wrong jack, probably by mistake after playing their mp4 directly on my speakers. The problem is that sounds on streaming sites like YouTube only come out of the front speakers (probably depending on your browser version). So the green wire must be properly connected. I don't know if this can help, but I have a feeling there are other cases like mine.

Thank you, but it's a laptop :)) With Firefox Beta, the same problem. It only works if I restart Firefox, and as soon as the computer goes to sleep, the sound disappears when I want to continue watching my video.

I just had the same problem, sound only on IE and not on Firefox
Problem solved by updating Flash Player with one of Yahourt's solutions:
By running a configuration software: flashutil.exe in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\

For me the name was:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9e.exe

Symptoms
- The video displays correctly but there is no sound in either Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 when visiting sites like YouTube, Dailymotion, Deezer, etc., while everything was working fine a few days ago,
- Windows Media Player v.11 and SMPlayer play music correctly, and we can hear sound,
- The sound system is functioning properly: to be tested with a small application in the control panel.
Cause
Nothing to do with the Flash Player plugin (it is installed and up to date), nothing to do with the speaker wires since the sound works.
This is due to improper uninstallation and installation of video/audio codecs, missing entries in the registry regarding [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]
Solution
Reload this list with the Codec Tweak Tool from K-Lite Codec Pack, I just checked the three items "Fixes/detect broken codecs/detect broken DirectShow filters/register quartz.dll". This added 7 additional lines, and hooray, everything works!

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32] "aux"="wdmaud.drv" "wdmaud.drv"="wdmaud.drv" "midimapper"="midimap.dll" "wavemapper"="msacm32.drv" "midi"="wdmaud.drv" "wave"="wdmaud.drv" "mixer"="wdmaud.drv"

I am not showing the other 23 lines of Drivers32 because they are codecs that you may not necessarily have. The idea came from here (https://www.micro-astuce.com/Forum/pas-son-avec-flash-player-sous-firefox-ie7-t1928.html but I definitely did not want to install his entire list.

Same, no sound for streaming with Firefox (with IE it works, but who is ready to go back to IE and its tortoise speed....).
I go to bed with my computer on, and when I got up there's no sound on streams paused because of dozing off^^
So no cable problem, Adobe is up to date... um the codecs? I don't see how they could have disappeared overnight....

I had the same kind of issues with the last update of Firefox 2 every time I restarted Firefox, when I launched the streams, they were downloading but the display and sound would freeze after a few seconds, I partly solved it by uninstalling the Adobe plugins and reinstalling them, I avoided turning off the computer and my browser afterwards...

I've had Firefox 3 for a few days, and this is the first time I've had a problem during a session without restarting Firefox and now the video works but impossible to get sound...

Since the problem only happens with Firefox, and that Firefox has been giving me problems for some time.... moreover, while browsing the forums I see that more and more of us are facing these kinds of issues.... Firefox is causing me more problems than IE.... it's really ironic... I wonder if I should change my browser instead?

A solution that worked:
- start Firefox in safe mode
- check the box "restore default settings of Firefox (or something like that)

For my part, after trying all the solutions suggested in the messages above, I ended up clicking the 'test' button on my creative ""surround mixer"" utility (which is a bit outdated, it's true). And it worked!!!!

I'm quite happy about it, but I didn't really understand, especially since Winamp was working perfectly.

Hello, I also have an audio problem with Firefox, but the issue only occurs when I am logged into a standard user account; the problem disappears when I run Firefox as an administrator. I deduce that there is a security restriction that disables something on secured accounts, but I can't find out what it is or how to disable this security. Does anyone know the solution?  Additional info: when launched from a standard account, if I look in the Windows 7 audio mixer (the speaker icon next to the clock in the taskbar), the Firefox application icon does not appear there.   Configuration: Windows 7 64bits - standard user account. Firefox 3.5.6

same problem no sound on firefox but on the other apps it works perfectly:  I might have the solution the problem comes from the add-ons so restart firefox in safe mode and try to disable the add-ons and restore to default then you just need to enable the same add-ons

Hello I just found a solution for my wife's computer under Firefox and W7. Here's what I did: right-click on the speaker next to the clock / open the volume mixer / and simply increase the volume where the Firefox icon is, and there you go, problem solved. I've been looking for this for over 6 months, and I would be happy if it helps. Michel
