HDMI issues with PS3 Solved/Closed

Hello,

I bought a PS3 plus an HDMI cable; it works in composite mode but not in HDMI. I’ve searched through forums but haven’t found any answers to my questions. I've tried everything, but I still get a black screen when switching to HDMI, and I can't even choose the resolution. I have a Samsung LE32R82BD HD Ready screen, and the HDMI ports are not detected by the TV in the source display. When I try to pass only the audio through HDMI automatically, I get an error message that says "HDMI port connection error, check if it is connected blablabla."
I've been through quite a few forums, and it seems that many others are in the same situation as me. Despite changing cables, etc., the problem persists for many.

Turn off the console! Once that's done, hold the power button for 5 seconds and then you will be able to configure the HDMI resolution.
Personally, I don't like Samsung for HD screens... Everyone says it's good just because it was on the Xbox 360 kiosks, but there are better options in terms of image definition.

EXACTLY the same problem for me with the Samsung LE32M51B.
There's nothing to be done, as the screen stays completely black when I set the source to HDMI... no settings can be changed (since some have suggested changing the frequency, etc.).

hi,
it has never worked for me actually via hdmi... it only works via scart!!! Yet, I have the right tv (philips hd ready)... I tried switching to hdmi only, with scart, hdmi then scart, resetting it multiple times... I tried a bunch of tricks and I only had an image (hdmi) for 2 seconds once and then nothing... THE TV says no video signal... this console is a mystery after all... any suggestions... lol

Hello, I have a PS3 pack 2 and an LG LCD screen. I had no problem connecting an HDMI 1.3 cable that I bought from a video game seller. I turned on the screen, and the console detected it automatically and installed everything by itself.

In fact, I've already had this problem and you need to go into the display settings when you're using the scart or whatever (well, what works for you) and then select the configuration you want to set up (what type of cable, resolution...) Then your screen will go black and quickly go behind your TV to change the cables as you previously configured the console. And there you go, you'll finally be able to enjoy your HD screen!

For me, it's the same; I still don't have any display... I have an LG HD Ready screen! Since this is seriously starting to annoy me, I looked in my TV manual and it says:
"Check the HDMI cable for version 1.3. HDMI cables that do not support HDMI version 1.3 may cause flickering or a lack of display. In this case, use the latest cables that support HDMI version 1.3."

I didn't quite understand if I needed a 1.3 cable or not^^, because my cable is indeed a 1.3 but it's universal and works with everything that has an HDMI port, so does the fact that it's a 1.3 make any difference?? (I've already bought 2 cables, it's getting on my nerves)

Hello everyone, I had the same problem where my screen went black when I switched to HDMI, but the solution is quite simple. You just need to take your remote and switch your screen to HDMI 1 for example when the screen is black, because if you set your PS3 to HDMI, you logically need to set your screen to HD and not EXT 1 ^^. And for those who want to reset the PS3 to its initial configuration, just turn it on and hold down the ON button until you hear a double BEEP, which will reset the TV to normal and not HD.

we had the same connection problem with LG 1080p screen / PS3
we did:
1. turn everything off and connect to the TV-PS3 with two cables: HDMI and the normal cable (SCART/S-video)
2. turn on the TV and on the TV: TV mode (input on LG) choose: normal SCART (AV1)
3. turn on the console: go to settings / display settings / full RGB range. By default, it is set to limited, you have to switch to COMPLETE
4. go to the console menu settings / display settings / output. choose HDMI
5. the TV screen goes black. In the TV modes (input on LG) choose: HDMI.
-> for us it works while when we only chose HDMI the signal sent remained black.

Upon restarting the console, on the PS3 we choose the video mode and the audio mode.

SONY should have managed this better. The problem I had was that when I connected the PS3 to an HD TV and then wanted to switch it to an old TV, I first had to modify the display settings on the LCD to watch on the normal TV. Now I have another problem: I bought another PS3 from a friend who had it connected to a simple HD screen. When I take it and try to connect it to a full HD 200Hz, it shows no image and just says incompatible format. When I try to connect it via the SCART (yellow cable), still nothing, just a black screen. So I will have to reconnect the PS3 to the old HD TV to reconfigure it for my full HD screen. SONY could have configured the PS3 to automatically adapt to the screen it's connected to. Well, on my first PS3, it automatically detected the HD screen, but when it came time to switch back to a normal screen, we had to do it manually. Now, it's configured for a normal HD and I can't connect it to a full HD. For hardware at this price, they're messing up.

You need to consider the HDMI ports on the TV, which are themselves defective. I'm experiencing the same problem with a black screen in HD, even though it used to work. I called customer service, and they told me they would come to replace the HDMI ports.

Hello, I have the same problem with my HDMI 1.3 cable. I have a 107 cm plasma screen, HD TV 100Hz. I go to HDMI display settings, I change it, then I go behind my screen, remove the SCART, plug in the HDMI, I go to source, I select HDMI2/DVI, which is where I connected the HDMI, but it says no signal. Then it says searching for signals, I wait and the screen goes black. I wait and at the top of my screen it shows the resolution of my screen 1024*728 and my screen remains the same. I reset everything, I did everything but it doesn't work. I also have my SCART connected at the same time as my HDMI, I go to AV and it says a device has been detected... I said yes, I remove the SCART and the screen is still black. Yet I was on the HDMI2/DVI menu of my plasma. Please help me, it's really annoying because it works at my friend's place. If you connect your PS3 via HDMI mode and it's in SD, connect the cables and start the console by holding it until you hear the second beep. The first beep is when you touch it and it turns on, but keep holding until you hear another beep and watch, it worked perfectly for me.

It's just Sparko! ^^ I have a different kind of problem :) and I'm relying on you to fix it!! So I have a SAMSUNG HD-ready screen that doesn't support the 1080p resolution of the PS3, and a week ago, I spent the night at a friend's house who has a full-HD TV, so I played in 1080p resolution at his place. But when I got back home and plugged the PS3 into my TV, I got a black screen and realized it's due to the console's setting which was on HDMI 1080p. So I held the ON button until the second beep to reset the PS3 to SCART, and since then... every time I try to switch it back to HDMI, it just doesn't work!! The HDMI cable is intact and the ports are fine as well.

Hello,  Often, it’s the HDMI connection at the back of the PS3 that has issues. Try to keep the plug firmly in place at the back, and it works. You just need to secure it properly.  Good luck.

For me it's the opposite, since I connected them via HDMI (on my 50-inch PLASMA screen) everything was fine, but when I wanted to move the PS3 to my room (but I don't have an HDMI in my room) well... it doesn't work anymore... Hi, I have exactly the same problem, PS3 slim 120GB. After sending my old PS3 fat 80GB for warranty, which worked perfectly on my SAMSUNG LE26S86BD [R] screen, since I got the new PS3, it's impossible to display via HDMI, black screen just like you.
