Hello,
I just picked up my PS3 after it had a little stay in repairs. The guy at Micromania gave me a paper that says "WARNING Consoles are set up in HDMI. In case of a black screen, please follow the instructions referenced in the memory aid on page 8." However, my TV, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, does not have HDMI. So I plug in my console and bam! black screen. My question is, which memory aid is he talking about? And if anyone knows these famous instructions, can you send them to me?

The memory aid for your PS3 is the manual you got in the box, and you need to go to page 8 titled "Connecting to an HDMI Television."

Anyway, I'm saving you the trouble of looking for it because I have it on hand, so to reset the config, you need to turn off your Play by the front button and then turn it back on while holding the button for at least 5 seconds until you hear 2 beeps.

Hello everyone,

For several weeks now, I've been facing a black screen and no sound when my PS3 is connected via HDMI to my SAMSUNG HD Ready TV (LE32R73BD).

My only alternative is to use the SCART output!! So I can't enjoy HD (what a bummer!!).

When I turn on the PlayStation, the TV detects the PS3 on HDMI and asks me if I want to use it, I say yes, and instantly, black screen.

I tried resetting the PS3 by holding the Power button (two beeps) but still nothing.

I tried with another PS3 and it doesn't work either.

I took my PS3 to a friend's place who has an HD Samsung screen, and it works.

I think it's related to the TV. I contacted Samsung's customer support, and they only had me do things I've already tried, and still nothing (a bunch of idiots..).

Can someone help me, please?

But be careful, because now my Play is also black screen, but it doesn't work anymore on mine because my chip must have burned out according to what the customer service told me. But that's two PS3s in less than a year, and now I'm pissed off because a console for 400 euros isn't something everyone can afford, and if every time we have to buy a new Play, it's really frustrating. So honestly, we can thank technology a lot and thank SONY because if they sell equipment that works for only a year, then there's no point in making new technology.

Hello, I bought a PS3 slim 120GB, I played for 2 hours on my regular screen, then I went to my wife's place for 15 days and I connected my PS3 to her HDMI screen and it worked. I came back home after 15 days with my PS3, I connected it to my regular screen and there's a black screen as if the TV didn’t recognize the PS3. Can you help me? Thank you.

Hello, and I apologize for the spelling; it's not my strong suit.... -So here's the thing, I had the same issue because I had fiddled with the PS3 settings and switched it to HDMI output when I was actually using component (YUV). So after that false manipulation, I got a black screen, so I think in your case you need to reconnect the component cable and set it to HDMI output in the video settings to use it with the HDMI output. Personally, I did that, hoping to help someone. Cheers, Brice

I have the same problem as you, I bought my PlayStation 3 Slim
a week ago, I plugged it into my room via HDMI. Following a Wi-Fi connection issue, I moved it from my living room where my screen was black.
I reset my console, so my data was lost.
This weekend, I was at my dad's where I was able to plug it in via HDMI, and when I returned, I found the black screen.
I would like to know if holding the Power button for 5 seconds will reset my console or just the settings.

What difference does it make whether it's a SCART or HDMI, it's still a black screen, I don't understand. One day I wanted to put it in my living room where there's HDMI and it works, then when I wanted to put it back in my bedroom where there's a SCART, bam, black screen.

If the brand of my TV is Tech Line, but some people from Migros (in Switzerland) told me that I need to set the video output to standard and then it should work, for me when I select HDMI it doesn't say standard, it just says 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.

So I had the problem that everyone has, I had my PS3 for 6 months
connected via HDMI since the beginning on my Toshiba flat screen, everything was working fine.
One afternoon I was playing COD, calmly turned off the console, turned it back on an hour later and then nothing, black screen, so it was bad and I tried everything: holding the button for 5 seconds, changing the HDMI cable, etc. By resetting it, I managed to get an image but through SCART, so disappointed. Hi everyone!  I have a problem with my PS3 since this afternoon. While I was playing, my console crashed on FIFA 12, displaying a green screen with white lines! I had to turn off the console, and since then, when I turn it on, nothing appears; my TV shows no signal! I tried holding down the power button until the PS3 turned off and then tried again until the second beep, but unfortunately, I can't even access the recovery menu! Hello everyone,

I had the same problem and couldn't solve it no matter what I did.
Then, I foolishly applied this solution from PS Forum and it worked, don't ask me why but it works even my Chromecast that wasn't showing up is working now.

Before you begin:

Turn off the PS3 system using the main power switch [MAIN POWER] (located at the back)
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet.
Turn off and unplug the television.
Plug one end of the HDMI cable into the [HDMI OUT] connector located at the back of the PLAYSTATION 3 system. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port of the television or monitor.
Plug the power cord of the PLAYSTATION 3 system into an electrical outlet. Turn on the PLAYSTATION 3 by pressing the main power switch [MAIN POWER] located at the back of the system. A red indicator lights up at the front of the system indicating that the system is powered on.
Press the power touch button located at the front of the system. The red indicator turns green, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is now on. Note: the blue indicator located at the front of the system also lights up if a disc is inserted.
Plug in the television and turn it on. The PLAYSTATION 3 should automatically detect the HDMI display device. When the question "Use HDMI to output video and audio?" appears, highlight YES and then press the Cross button. (If necessary, press the PS button located at the center of the SIXAXIS(TM) controller to activate it.)
The next question you will be asked is: "Automatically change optimal settings?" Highlight YES, then press the Cross button.
On the next screen, the PLAYSTATION 3 displays the maximum resolution (i.e., 1080p). The next question you will be asked is: "Accept this setting?" You have 30 seconds to confirm your answer[2]. Highlight YES and press the Cross button to save your settings. The HDMI setup is complete.
