Hello,
I would like to know if I could read a dual-layer DVD with my regular DVD burner (not dual-layer). Thank you!

As for READING, a basic DVD player can read any DVD whether it is single or dual layer, -R or +R, or RW of all kinds of DVDs.
Burning, that’s another matter. -

Well, if it’s engraved in dual layer, and your player doesn’t accept that format, it won’t work (I think!). Now, if it’s a dual layer, recorded with a standard burner, or recorded normally, it should read it, right? Any other opinions?

Ok, I'll ask my buddy to burn the DVD for me and I'll let you know if it works ;) Thanks for your help :-)

Hi,
I don't see what could prevent it. We're talking about reading, right?

I have an old standalone player (from 2000/2001), it reads double-layer perfectly. It's just a change of focus of the laser (with a bit of extra power), I don't see why PC players would be an exception...

Well, as mentioned, I'm not a specialist in the field, so according to you, will any DVD player read DVD-DL?

Indeed, commercial DVDs are almost always DVD - DL or DVD-9 (dual layer), but personal use dual layer DVDs are DVD + DL, and you will likely have no difficulty reading them on your PC.
Speaking of which, I do video editing and I have a project that doesn't fit on a standard DVD (DVD 5 (single layer)) and I would like to know if DVD + DL is compatible with many stand-alone players?
