Kernel panic (Ubuntu 7.10)

Bonjour,
Après avoir réaliser la manip. suivante http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=169031 car mon ordinateur était vraiment très long au démarrage voilà qu'il ne démarre plus du tout.
Voilà ce qu'il m'indique au boot:
Starting up...
[12.255463].. MP-BIOS bug:8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC
[13.649405] RAMDISK: ran out of compressed data
[13.649441] invalid compressed format (err=1)
[13.650111] Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0;0)
Que puis-je faire???
