[pb] DVD-ROM not found!

Solved

Hello everyone!

So here is my problem:
I recently bought Call Of Duty 4, so I install it (everything goes well), then when I start the game (solo) an error message appears:

The DVD-ROM is not found

Please insert the appropriate DVD-ROM, then click OK and restart the application.

I would also like to point out that the multiplayer mod works xD...

In any case, that's not all: I have Battlefield 2142 which gives me the same problem... but Battlefield 2 works very well...

So my computer is a Dell Dimension 9200: I called Dell, they connected me... blah blah... they told me to uninstall a software called Roxio...
Anyway, they also told me that it wasn’t due to the version of the drive and that updating it wouldn't help...

My hypothesis:
Well, my CD drive also acts as a burner like many other computers... recent games have copy protection which is blocking the game and therefore cannot read it...
(I might be wrong about everything ^^)

If anyone has a solution... that would be really great because I'm about to lose it...

Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

It is necessary to stop marking the subject as Resolved when it is not the case at all!! Many subjects are marked as resolved....

The answer is "simple", just crack the game.

Copy the file iw3sp that is located in the crack folder of the installation CD, and paste it into the game installation folder.

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\

    and replace the existing file.

    Good luck.

No, the answer to the whole problem is simply to remove from "property" "compatibility" "run this program in compatibility mode for:"
I just spent hours searching and the solution is this, like a miracle, before it was saying "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, then click OK and restart the application" and now after removing that compatibility mode:
    IT WORKS!

Same for me with Call of Duty 4, it must come from the Safedisc protection v 4.81.000

I read that it's doable but quite complicated

    Anyone to enlighten us

    Thank you

    Hi

Under Vista, you need to disable the Windows XP SP2 compatibility mode by right-clicking on the properties of the file C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3sp.exe

    It worked for me

      Hi,
I had the same problem with COD4, I gave up because it worked in multiplayer, then the same issue with
COD5. I bought the game, installed it, played in multiplayer but in solo nothing, arhhggghh I was really annoyed, so
I took all the DVD drives I had and finally, as a last resort, I took an IDE DVD drive (because all my others
are SATA). I installed it and miracle, the game in solo appeared, so I deduce that COD games don't like
SATA DVD drives, but there’s no problem with Airborne.
      Hopefully, this can help someone.
      Good luck,
      Regis

Personally, I had the same problem with Quake 4; it asked me to insert the Quake 4 (TM) DVD. To see if the problem was related to compatibility, I noticed that there was no compatibility with Windows 7. After that, I reinstalled the game on another PC with XP and miracle, it worked!!!

I’m not a pirate. I just want to use the games I paid for. Otherwise, too bad, I’ll move on to something more reliable and stop wasting my nerves, my time, and my money! Lol. Bye, long live nature.

Good evening, I checked if I have iw3sp in the crack on the CD and, well, I don't have it, I only have cod2sp_s. Regards.

If you encounter this error message, it is due to the type of protection (Safe Disc V.2) used by Ubisoft on most of their games, which detects the presence of one or more virtual drives associated with burning programs such as Alcohol 120% or Clone CD/DVD and others like them.

The solution: Simply go and disable all virtual drives and restart your game!

No need to restart or uninstall anything.
