Hello,
One should not imagine that at Microsoft they were concerned about political correctness (although they must be).
The term CON is the symbolic name of a device under MSDOS (like COM1, COMx, PRN). This device is the CONsole (the screen). And so it is a reserved word for the system that cannot be used as one wishes.
It is not really in use today; it is the prehistory of the PC. But it still works.
If under ms-dos you have a .txt file (hello.txt for example) that contains text, you can display it on the screen by doing:
You "copy" the content of the file to the screen.
Best regards

Hello,
I took the test and the same goes for me!!!!!! It's very stupid, but I found out why after a little research:
http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 3006362 naming a folder stupid is a stupid thing
http://www.windowsutilities.net/easter-eggs/le-dossier-con.html
It's a joke at Microsoft, though!!!!! :-DDDDD

no but what's funny about Omar's technique is that you can call a file... nothing
that is to say you can not put a name on the folder!!
Well, OK, I haven't found the usefulness yet but it will probably come one day ;)

Hello
To want to name a folder "idiot," I think you have to be a bit of one yourself...
That said, you might as well not be foolish by not trying to understand why it's not possible.
See Jee pee's response, post no. 2.

Hello everyone,
please excuse the non-accented characters from
actually, renaming a folder using just the three letters C O N is virtually impossible, you might think it’s not logical but it’s true, and would you like to understand why?
let’s go back a bit to the beginning of the creation of the DOS operating system, at that time there was no simple text editor available, the only way was to execute the DOS command "copy con fichier1.txt" where "fichier1.txt" is the name of the file to be created on the disk, and the word "con" means "console" which means "screen", all this means "copy everything that is typed on the screen into the file fichier1.txt". try this command in the dos prompt (start>run>cmd), type a sentence of your choice and to finish type the combination ctrl+z and validate with the enter key, what message did you receive?
now let’s proceed by elimination, if we create a folder named "con" and we want to copy it to another location (example: copy con dossier1), what will happen you will see just as you did by executing the example above.
so it is logical for Microsoft not to allow creating a folder named con.
good luck to everyone.

On the other hand, where these Americans are really good is that if you name your file "bombe," it automatically renames it to "jack bauer," incredible, right???
-- yeah, okay, it's average, I agree, but it's the end of the day!! --
