GIF image display issue

I also have this problem displaying gif images. I checked that the option to display images is checked. One particularity: the display issue is not systematic. It seems related to network load. For example, right now at 5:33 PM, I only have the X of the image g.gif in the message input box, the void of the image i.gif
My configuration: Windows 98, IE6

same image display problem, some show up but others do not, just their empty space.... and I have checked the box to display images in the config panel.....

I have a very similar problem too. Some .GIF images do not display or the animated GIFs display but are not animated.
The second problem is more common.
Config:
OS: Win XP Home
ISP: AOL 9.0 (beta test version)
IE: 6.0

There is a software (plug-in) called powerie6 that includes a tab related to display deficiencies. For me, the result is not obvious. You can download powerIE6 at

I had the same problem (no display of jpg images on certain sites)

I solved the problem by modifying Norton Internet Security as follows:

1/ Disable it completely for the affected sites

or

2/ Disable the "privacy protection" setting

Information intended for those who are equipped, of course, with a firewall

For others, the problem seems quite complex to resolve (system errors, virtual machine, and others.......)
