[ Epson DX-5050 ] printer has white stripes while printing

Hello,
I bought an EPSON Stylus DX-5050 printer just six months ago. It was working fine until the day I replaced an ink cartridge, the black one. And since then...
The pages I print are completely shredded on the left side of the paper (the printer is feeding white sheets poorly), and on the right side there are small white diagonal bands.
I think it’s more of a hardware issue than a computer or some print software problem. Could I have damaged the inside of the printer by changing the cartridge? It doesn’t seem likely but still...
How can I fix this when I know nothing about the insides of these machines?

Thanks for your help!
