Good evening, just a little note to say that I bought a Packard Bell with the Geforce 8600 GS a year and a half ago, I was told it was great and that it would be perfect and durable for playing World of Warcraft. The problem is it just let me down, so personally I would advise against this card which lasts just a little over a year...
Just a quick question, how much is it???
I found it for €859
It's not bad, just need a little more RAM for me.
As for the graphics card, I don't know much, but it's mid-range or even high-end.

Hello,
I believe we are currently undertaking the same process.
I found your discussion very informative, and I would like to ask for your opinion on a desktop computer that I am considering buying for my son for Christmas:
I noticed a Packard Bell X9651, with a Quad Q6600 processor, 2 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, GeForce 8600 GS 512 MB (up to 1279 MB, I don’t quite understand this, shared memory maybe).
The usage is for video games, so is it sufficient for games like Call of Duty 4, Crysis, and all the current FPS titles?
I hear a lot about the 8800 GT 320 MB, is the price difference justified?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

The 8600 GTS is already "outdated"... if you can afford it, get an 8800 GT! It's half the price of the 8800 GTX and only 14% less powerful... it's the card of the moment... very classy....:-D
Hi
What will you be using your computer for?
The 8600 card is better than the 8500 in theory, even though the 8600 GS is lower quality than the 8600 GT. As for the processor, it doesn't necessarily have to be very high; it's just that the higher it is, the more likely the motherboard will be suited for a potential processor upgrade. Personally, I prefer Intel for processors. And for memory, I think that in normal PC use, you won't need 3GB of RAM; plus, if you want to add memory later, it will be simpler to change 2 sticks of 1GB for 2 of 2GB.
I recommend checking out this site; it will give you all sorts of information about PC hardware.
http://www.choixpc.com/memoire.htm
I think you can find Packard Bell with Intel Core 2 Duo. I opt for a custom-built PC
The AMD x2 5000+ processor should be more than sufficient (that's already 2.6 MHz x 2). But that same PC has 3GB of memory which isn't very useful and a fairly weak motherboard for gaming. So between these two choices, I would go for the Packard Bell.
I hope I helped you.
See you soon

Hi,
I have the impression that this PC is much more video-oriented than gaming. This graphics card is very little known. I have only found it in configurations, but never sold on its own.
Best regards.

I mainly find the 8600 GTS, so it's the same good question, I think so, at least the characteristics are the same.
Next-generation, ultra-performance graphics card.
Dedicated to video games and optimized for high definition,
it promises even more exceptional results in
your video game applications. It supports NVIDIA's SLI mode,
which involves pairing two graphics cards in
a PC to enhance video performance for optimal
display quality. Additionally, this card is compatible
with DirectX 10, which will be the new standard for
graphic processing in future games. Its HDCP compatibility ensures
the processing for displaying high-definition content.

I found some info, many think the PC is good. Many doubt the graphics card, it turns out it's simply not available on the market as it's made for Medion. One guy says "We would thus be looking at an 8600GS superior to the 8800GT, GTX, or even Ultra."

Thanks again for your comments...
But now I'm even more hesitant about buying this PC... !
I don't know what to think about this graphics card... if it is powerful enough to properly and fully use the recently released video games as well as those coming out in the next few months, or even further down the line...
I don't know what to base my final decision on!

Thank you for your previous and future responses... !!

Honestly, I've read a lot of forums and they say that it still performs quite well. I think people are too demanding when it comes to graphics cards; they all say that they quickly become outdated. However, I have a GeForce 3 Ti 200 64MB and I'm running Far Cry on it.
I believe that with minimum specifications, this card will be able to handle games for a while. You can upgrade later.
I'm going to buy one tonight around 5 PM; I hope there will still be some left.
Otherwise, buy it for me and I'll pay you back, lol.

Hello,
I don't know if this topic is closed or not. I'm interested in a Packard Bell PC in price ranges lower than this PC. It has an Intel Core Q6600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, and it also has this NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GS card that works with DirectX 10. So after searching online, it seems that the 8600 GS has a lower performance than the 8600 GT. I plan to use my PC for versatile purposes.
Can someone inform me about the video quality of all types viewed on a 19-inch screen with this same graphics card? Do you think that for someone who is not an intensive gamer but likes to watch videos on PC, this card will do the trick?
Thank you.

Hello, so first response, no problem the 8600gs for multimedia, but it surprises me, I thought it was only made for Medion PCs.
For GRIMGOR, the 8600 gs has only 256 MB of memory (I don't know what shared means). For games it’s not the best, I think it won't have any problem with Call of Duty, I'll install it in a few hours and let you know.

Hello :)
I just bought a Packard Bell (this weekend) with a Quad Q6600 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 500 GB hard drive, and a GeForce 8600 GS 512 MB
I confirm, it has 512 MB dedicated and 1279 MB shared.
The card works quite well, Call of Duty 4 runs but not at full settings (we're always demanding :D)
I really want to pair it with a second card... but is it possible? Do I need to get an identical card or would an 8600 GT work?
Because I can't find a GS in stores at the moment :/

Hi,
"I really want to pair it with a second card... but is it possible? Do I need to get an identical card, or would a 8600 GT work?"
To pair two graphics cards, you first need to ensure that your PC's motherboard has 2 PCI-Express ports in 2x16X or 2x8X configurations. Since you have an nVIDIA card, the motherboard must also be SLI compatible. If these two conditions are met, the two graphics cards must be strictly identical, or at least SLI certified. You therefore need to check if you have 16X PCI-Express ports. The problem with your card is that, apparently, it is only sold integrated into a system configuration. So, at least in France, it's impossible to get a second one.
Good luck.

It's not the GPU that you have.
To put another one in, you need to check what speed your PCI Express port is running at, whether it's 16x or 8x. Because if it's 8, it's dead.

Hello everyone, a quick question for a novice. I bought a PC with an Nvidia 8500 GT graphics card. From what I read, should I get rid of it or is it still usable? I use the computer in addition to my work for watching DVDs and very few games. If someone could let me know, that would be cool. Thanks!
No no, still this card is very good. I think that internet users have very high demands for graphics cards. It's true that games are becoming more and more demanding. But to watch DVDs, you can almost keep your card for life.
Most of the latest games should run on your PC. So you don't have too much to worry about.

Hello Crossfire
Can you tell us if the Packard Bell PC you bought has 2x2GB or 2x1GB of memory? And do you think it's possible to upgrade to 4GB on this PC? I went on a Packard Bell forum, but I didn't quite understand from the comments whether it's ultimately possible or not.
Secondly, what do you think about the video quality and other features with this computer?
Did you manage to find out if your PC would support an 8600 GT graphics card?
Thank you for your answers :)

Hello,
He indicated the amount of installed RAM: 2GB. Can we upgrade to 4GB? It seems possible. The problem is that 32-bit OS can only manage 3GB, so there's no point in going to 4GB, at least for now.
The PC should be this one:
http://www.packardbell.fr/products/ordinateurs-de-bureau/multimedia/iMedia-X-9628-AIO/productsheet-PB80X15002-644.html
It has 1 PCI-Express 16X port, so you can replace the installed graphics card with any graphics card that has a PCI-Express 16X port, including the GeForce 8500GT. This answers the question of having 2 cards in SLI: impossible, since there is only one PCI-Express 16X port.
Best regards.

Hello,
I have a problem with my PC, a Siemens Amilo XA 2529. I have the Nvidia 8600M GS graphics card, and all the symptoms I've seen are similar. What should I do? Contact the store where I bought it? Siemens?
What am I entitled to? Because if I had known, I wouldn't have bought this PC, especially since I was told about its qualities......... But when was this hidden defect discovered? I bought my PC a year and a half ago; is that valid for me? Can I get a refund or something else??
What is a hidden defect? And when was this problem with the Nvidia 8600 GS recognized?
It's urgent because I really need a working PC.
