Hello,
I just bought from Lidl the Silvercrest DC-581 digital camera; the manual says there is a digital zoom X16 and there is no indication of optical zoom.
Can someone tell me what the difference between the two is and if there is any info available somewhere about this device?
Thank you for your responses.
Anne

Hi
I also have flash problems, which works when it wants to (not often!!!) and also the software doesn’t run on XP, so tomorrow I’ll take it back to LIDL. -
Hi Anne
The digital zoom is a zoom that enlarges the pixels of your photo, while the optical zoom is a zoom that lets you bring the image closer before taking the photo. (Like film cameras... you see ???) On your device there is no optical zoom.
But I bought the same as you and I can't install the driver. Do you have Vista?
The driver remains unfindable on my computer! Help me !!!
Thanks for your responses. -
I just tested this DC 581 device purchased at LIDL.
It's not worth spending €89.99 (the purchase price) on it and I returned it.
For more details, here are the remarks I can make:
- An instruction manual that is far too light. They provide a CD containing docs, but you need a Windows computer to use it (mine runs Linux and the CD is unusable).
- A number of functions described on the very short DOC (and on the box) do not work (no flash, no option to format the SD memory card using the device; you must go through a computer using the program on the CD).
- The menu functions are not very easy to use.
- Not very simple for deleting (photos or videos).
- The sound accompanying video recording is not very good.
- It is not known if there is digital stabilization for video recordings.
- The device is not visible on the official Silvercrest site (which is suspicious) and we thus have no additional information beyond what is available with the device.
- There is no information on photo capture modes (burst, single shot, etc.) and taking photos seems slow.
Two positive details nonetheless:
photos taken with sufficient lighting (since there is no flash) are of excellent quality.
The viewfinder screen is really bright and very wide. -
Hello to all users of this "excellent" device!!!
so me too, I bought it last Thursday at LIDL, and honestly I’m a bit blown away.
First I found the price a bit high for a 5M (10M apparently in extension I don’t know exactly what that means): 90 EUR
for a LIDL brand it’s a bit excessive... but well maybe the device performs miracles, so let’s try!!
and well after trying it this WEEKEND:
- photos and videos in the box: catastrophic, sound inaudible, image crappy, lack of smoothness
- outdoor photos today (quite gray weather around 4pm, beginning of dusk): horrible images (grainy) worthy of a 1M mobile phone!!
So well, should I take it back tomorrow? I still have a hard time believing this device is so bad, so I wonder if I didn’t make bad adjustments since apparently EW states: "'photos taken with sufficient brightness (since no flash) are of excellent quality'...
I previously had a PENTAX Optio S50 that I stupidly broke, and I’m seriously starting to regret it!!
Other testimonials or advice on settings??? -

Actually, with Windows XP I also tried to get the driver to work without success, but with XP we don’t need it. Just connect the device to a USB port on the PC, turn on the camera, and choose option 2: mass storage. Then go to the PC Explorer and the camera is seen as a USB flash drive. Best regards

Hello,
me too I bought it, I find it pretty good but the problem is that sometimes (not always) when I take a photo it sends me directly to all the photos I took before how to modify that?
thank you -

Hello everyone,
the photos taken with the Silvercrest DC-581 device have the same name every time I erase the previous ones, which is a big problem of overwriting on the PC.
If someone has a solution to change this problem, thanks in advance

It's not complicated, you create a folder with the current date for example 091104, i.e. AA/MM/JJ, so you can sort your folders by date when you sort by name. Then you go into your camera and copy the photos from your camera's folder into the folder on your PC that you just created. In any case, I do it like that and additionally, I create subfolders such as Visit to Morvan, Sophie’s Birthday, Alexandre’s Birth. This makes it easy to find your photos... by shooting date, by subject... Hoping to have helped you! Moreover, I recommend Google Picassa, which will reveal them to you—by folder and shooting date. An excellent program that will also let you make edits. Search Picassa in Google’s search box. There are plenty of articles showing its advantages. I won’t go into the topic any longer! Regards

Like you, I bought an USB acquisition key at Lidl and I have the same problem
You probably need to download the missing ksolay.ax fix on XP 98, I'm trying but it's not obvious!!!
you go to control panel -> hardware -> device manager, and you’ll notice that when the key is plugged in the yellow triangle with ! is displayed next to "vidéograbler" you try to update the driver from your computer by connecting to the Internet, it will start loading the driver then tell you that this driver cannot be updated on this platform If you look closely during the telecharging, you’ll see the path C//WINDOWS/system32 if you have XP 32-bit.
I’m continuing and if I get there I’ll tell you I’m not far from the final result but you have to "tinker" this is old software and for little that updates aren’t complete it’s a bit flaky -
Hello
I don’t understand your flash problem, because mine works perfectly and I also bought it at LIDL.
