Does anyone have the Traveler 5-megapixel minicam sold by Aldi?

    Response to your question: on Wednesday, I will also go looking for one. The quality is 5 megapixels; to have the same quality, you would have to spend around 500 euros on big brands. If you put in a 4-gigabyte card, you will have about 2 hours of HD film. For the person who doesn't know, these videos can be played on Windows Media Player. For those who don't know, download a codec pack; VLC works without codecs. For your edits, use a different software than Windows Movie Maker; there are better and free options. I am available for any other technical questions you may have.

      I have the TRAVELER DV 5060 camera. It works very well, both image and sound. The only problem is that the clips are in ASF format. Windows Media Player reads them fine, but PINNACLE STUDIO 9 doesn't recognize them, making it impossible for me to edit. I also haven't been able to burn a DVD. How can I solve the problem? Is it possible to convert ASF extensions? Thank you in advance to all the experts.

        I don't understand why you wouldn't make your film. It works - you just need to convert the files if you want to add transitions. But without transitions, with music, without converting, okay, great.

    It's disheartening to see how much the messages posted here can be, sometimes very informative, but in this case, it's alarming... So, being about to buy a camera at Aldi for budget reasons, the Traveler DC-5900 doesn't seem too bad, I've also looked into it and I'm sharing what I found for those who want *real* info about their product.

    So far, so good. For 50 euros, you can't really say they are robbing us. Maybe just a slight lack of sensitivity, but hey, it always comes back to the price.     Really, according to the information officially provided by the manufacturer, the camera doesn't look like a piece of junk for 50 euros. Ideally, there should just be a test to see if the image quality level is acceptable or not, but unfortunately, I found nothing online regarding that. However, the environment already sets the tone: don't expect something professional (Aldi, 50 euros, unknown brand, etc...). Still, it doesn't seem to be crap.

    If I remember, I'll post somewhere (same username), maybe here on this thread, my impressions of this camera.

    I also bought it.
    The camera is nice despite the buttons being too small.
    I really think that being powered by two AA batteries is a plus.

    However, I have a big problem with this camera.
    The videos are not recognized by Windows Player, Movie Maker, and Real Player.
    I can only play them with VLC.
    It’s impossible to edit them with Windows Movie Maker.

    Do you have a solution to this problem?

      Hi,

      the device records videos in 640x480 at 24 frames per second in MJPEG format. Depending on the codecs installed on your machine, this may be recognized as Internal Motion JPEG (in ffdshow). As for the audio format, it's PCM (uncompressed), 16 bit at 8KHz. So if you want your videos to be portable and playable with any DivX, XviD player or the codecs on your machine, the best thing to do is to download VirtualDub MPEG2, open your video, and convert it.

      In the video menu, there is already the option "full processing," so you just have to click on the "compression" menu, then Video-->Compression. There, a dialog box will open and show you all the codecs installed on your machine, DivX (Fast-Low Motion, 4.12, 5.2 Pro, or 6 Pro...), XviD, ffdshow, Indeo, H.261, H263, H264, X264, Windows Media9 or 10... the list can be long depending on what codec packs you have installed and whether you have installed just for playback or for playback and compression. Anyway, once you've chosen your codec, let's say XviD for example, click on configure and if you don't care about the destination size, set a bitrate of 1500 kbps because beyond that, there are no real performance benefits with DivX or XviD, knowing that you have something good. Generally, movies that fit on a CD with a duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes and an MP3 sound at 128 kbps run at about 950.

      For the sound, click on audio-->full processing, so as to process the sound and that of the original video, the uncompressed PCM format, which is good but takes up too much space. Then, click again on audio-->conversion. There, you can choose to switch to a higher sampling rate, like 44100 Hz (CD audio format), but you won't improve your sound, at worst you might get a whistling. The best is to leave it as is, but you can do some tests. The important thing is that the conversion happens at the stereo level, to go from mono to stereo. And check the box for full conversion. Note that it will only be the same source left and right, but it will be "stereo" that you can adjust left and right during playback with your sound card. Click OK.

      Then, click on Audio-->compression and choose the codec you want for the sound. Personally, if you changed the sampling rate to 44100Hz, and you chose DivX for video, choose the DivX ;-) Audio codec; otherwise, if you preferred XviD, choose an MP3 codec like Lame MP3 or MPEG Layer-3 and select a format that matches the sampling rate you chose, whether you kept the original 8000 Hz (8KHz) or changed to 44100Hz, and choose stereo, preferably, since you are doing the conversion, and then choose a bitrate of 128 kbps, because remember that originally it is uncompressed PCM, so you must indicate compression of 64, 128, 256... values that are too high will not necessarily give you better sound. Once you choose your audio codec correctly, click OK.

      Then, click on File-->Save as AVI and choose the directory and name of your destination file.

      DO SOME TESTS, IT DOESN'T COST A THING.

      There you go. As for the price, 64 euros, the DC9900 is cool, relaxed, and decent in terms of photo quality because let's not forget that it's a camera and not a digital camcorder.

      Aldi often has good deals, and if you don't like it, they refund you within 7 working days, as the law states and without any disputes. But it still remains the first computer equipment I bought from them, and I returned it because it had already been used and they gave me another one. But when I go to see what they have, they don't make real profits on the computer equipment; it's bait. And they probably have very cheap suppliers.

      Here it is, I bought a camera at Aldi, brand TRAVELER DV-Z5 HD. The camera does not have a pause function while recording! But that's not the issue, as I'm sure there must be some editing software available.
      The problem is, when I put the footage from my camera onto my PC, I open it, there's no audio sound, but the image is terrifically good!
      So how can I get the editing software for this brand? And how can I retrieve the audio sound, and copy my footage onto a CD? And later upload my little films to YouTube?

    Yes, I bought it and I'm not disappointed.

    It's a shame that the button to take photos or videos is in the wrong place.

    They should have placed it where the on/off button is or somewhere else.

    The 1 GB memory card is a nice bonus worth 10 euros.

    Very good and compact for a first camera or first purchase.

    I recommend it to people like me who have a tight budget and want to treat themselves with a first purchase.

    However, DV, the problem you have comes from your PC.

    My videos are visible from Windows Media Player even from the memory card.

    So it comes from your PC.

        I purchased the mini camera, it is very easy to use, the videos have sound, but the films are blurry in the dark (using maximum zoom). When playing the video on PC, the audio and video are out of sync.

      - Can you tell me if the window is adjustable, which is super handy? I don't get that impression from the camera's photo.

      - Is it more worthwhile to buy a digital camera, which also shoots videos with sound? A friend had a camcorder and a camera, he now only uses the camera for his films.
      If I understood correctly, it's mainly because it's easier to transfer the videos (it happens directly).

      - What do you know or think about the 75 Euro camera offered at Aldi? Nothing is mentioned regarding the possibility of filming.

    I paid 170 euros for it.

    The software is quite mediocre in my opinion.

    Good evening,
    I need some help please,
    I was given a Traveler DV-5000 mini digital camcorder, and I have a problem.
    The battery is dead and I can't recharge it. Nothing in the manual mentions recharging, and when I plug it into the computer, it seems to charge, gets warm, and as soon as I unplug it, I can't turn it on. It's not broken because it responds very well when connected and so on....

    Hello, for my camcorder from Aldi, the Traveler DV500 HD. When I press the video button, the one on top with the camera symbol, circled in light, I hear the sound of a photo being taken and when I want to play my video, I hear the sound but only see the first still image. I must be messing up the settings, can you help me, thanks.
