Hello,

I’m looking for a way to take control of my elderly parents’ phone to help them out. Which apps to use?

Thanks for your advice

    Hello,

For example with TeamViewer for Android (if there is an Android version) but that would require us to install it ourselves on the destination phone because they will probably be unable to do so.

I don't know either if, like on PCs, the "silent" mode exists (startup and possibility of automatic connection resilient to the phone being turned off and then back on).

      Thank you for your reply,

I had understood that to use TeamViewer, both the master and slave devices had to be on the same network.

      Perhaps I misunderstood.

      Please confirm this point.

Luckily that is not the case, otherwise, besides the personal uses we can have, for example IT helpdesks could not take control of their clients' PCs, worse even for phones which are generally not on a local network.

The principle is that each terminal, when it connects to the application, obtains a specific identifier that passes through its IP address and perhaps other factors and that is used to connect; but there is indeed in most systems a "Viewer" application (most often free) and a "Server" application which is not always free: for this to work the Server application must be installed and listening on the target phone, depending on the case after the initial setup one can connect in silent mode (without the target's intervention) or assisted mode with its authorization (which can be problematic in this case).

I used several of these applications a long time ago, I’m not or no longer an expert.

TeamViewer even in free version quickly tends to regard exchanges as professional and charge, if there exist Android versions, there is no longer, to my knowledge, a free variant of VNC Server.

There are alternatives, not necessarily free either; see an overview here:

        Hi,

Nomachine is still free and comes with quite a few features such as remote printing, sound, or file transfer, but it’s not very practical on the internet unless you know how to tinker with IP addresses. Or via a VPN like Hamachi.
