Lenovo Thinkpad Battery HS - Can I change it myself?

Hello,

The battery of my Lenovo laptop is dead. I would like to know if I can change it myself or if it's better to go to a repair shop. I am a student, so I have a tight budget, and I have been quoted 120 € to replace it.

Are there any steps to take other than removing the old one and putting in a new one? (It's an external battery, so no disassembly is required to access it.)

And if it's possible, which batteries would be suitable for the laptop considering the previous one? I'm not very knowledgeable, so I don't understand the impact of changing Volts, Wh, or mAh.

I also don't understand the meaning of 61+ or if I must keep it exactly as it is or not.

    Hello,

    The battery model is 61+ 01AV425 and the model is Thinkpad T470.

    Just search for all these terms and reinsert the battery since it is removable.

    The image shows a battery that is not original but from the brand DNX.

    Hello,

    The number 61 describes the type of battery. If your laptop is indeed a ThinkPad T470, you need a type 61 battery.

    Then, the + or ++ or the absence of this sign describes the thickness of the battery; it has a protrusion that slightly lifts the back of the laptop.

    61 without the plus sign refers to a battery that does not protrude at all from the laptop (the base of the laptop is completely flat) but its capacity is reduced (24Wh) because it has only 3 cells.

    61+ refers to a 6-cell battery, thus with double the capacity (48Wh); it is thicker and slightly protrudes from the chassis, which is the one you currently have.

    61++ refers to a battery with even more capacity, generally 72Wh, which protrudes even more from the chassis.

    The original model seems to be a 61+, so just get the same one, unless you need an XXL capacity.

    You’re not going to spend €120 to replace a battery that’s worth at most €40 or €50! It’s just a matter of taking it out of its slot and inserting the new one! An operation that takes at most 30 seconds; the professional who offers you the replacement at that price is taking you for a fool.

      No, once the battery is in place, you charge it and that's it. It is already partially charged upon receipt.
