We have an HP 6520 all-in-one printer and two computers: an iMac running macOS Big Sur purchased in September 2015 that can no longer be updated, and a MacBook Air running OS Sequoia. HP support has no solutions to this problem other than asking us to contact our Internet provider. The latter, Free, offered to use Free Connect to force the 2.4GHz to connect the printer. Indeed, this method works once in a while, and we manage to print one or two documents. I therefore asked Free to provide me with a more stable method. Their response: contact HP. Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.

Hello,

Why talk about the internet...? This printer is not made to print via the internet; it doesn't have an RJ45 port... it connects to the computer via USB or WiFi, but only prints local documents on the BOX's internal network...? If I understood correctly...?

If the printer is a bit far from the BOX or if there's concrete in between, it will have difficulties receiving the WiFi... You shouldn't use the 5 GHz but the 2.4 GHz which has a longer range...

Avoid placing the BOX in the basement or in a metal closet...

Beyond 10-15 meters (without concrete), you should consider adding a 2.4 GHz WiFi repeater halfway.

Connecting the computers to the BOX with a wired connection is preferable to avoid losses and interference between the BOX and the computer...

There may also be other devices causing interference/pollution in the area, even from the neighbor...

Hello, Thank you for the response. This printer is connected to the IMAC OS BIG SUR computer which is no longer updated as it was purchased in 2015 via USB and was printing documents either from the IMAC or from the Mac or the phones. I said "was printing." We have fiber since November 2023 placed on the ground floor and the printer is on the IMAC upstairs. Until now, we have not had any issues. If neither HP nor Free can find a solution, I will apply the Free method which consists of "Forcing 2.4 GHZ" and waiting for the printer to reconnect. As soon as that is done, I will be able to print. Thank you for wanting to help me anyway.

Hello,

If you give two different SSID names to the 2.4 and 5 GHz wifi networks, for example GM2 and GM4, she would always be connected to the 2.4 network if you want.

What model of Freebox?

And there you go, there you have it ....

But what a pain the line spacing is!!

Thank you for the response. Your advice, as specialized as it may be, is directed at a novice. Unfortunately! Model of the Free Box: Free Box Pop. Thank you. GZ

Freebox Pop, you therefore have a wifi repeater if the printer does not have enough signal from the box.

To separate the 2.4 and 5 GHz SSIDs:

Didn't Free support offer you that?

I think that with the arrival of fiber, the BOX has been changed... So the wifi key as well and the protocol ..??

My questions were mainly about distances and other obstacles ... But, I understand that the connection for printing is done via USB..? So the Wifi doesn't matter, it is not used..?

And with the phones, it's not USB..? I think more details are missing..??

I’m quite concerned... that the printing is done via Wifi and that it's the USB that is useless..??

The BOX placed on the ground floor does not favor the Wifi connection with the printer... It would be interesting to move this printer, 2 meters from the BOX, for a week's testing (for example) and in this new context, make several prints... to see how it goes.?
