Hello forum friends,

I am asking for your help regarding the following problem:

My father entrusted me with his Asus Notebook N752V from 2016, which is stuck in the BIOS, going back to it at every startup.
The operating system is Windows 10
128 GB SSD
2.5" backup HDD
Intel Core i7 6700 HQ processor
DDR4 2400 MHz 8 GB memory
AMERICAN MEGATREND BIOS
VERSION 300
GOP VERSION 9.0.1035
The BIOS shows the correct date and time
I tested the SSD and it works
I tried with another 4 GB RAM stick, and the problem is the same.

The devices are not displayed, and I cannot change the boot order.

Do you have any ideas to suggest?

Thank you in advance for your help

Philippe

Hello,

Check the BIOS settings:

Check the Boot Mode: Ensure that the boot mode is set to UEFI (not Legacy) if Windows 10 is installed in UEFI mode. In the BIOS, look for the "Boot Mode" or "UEFI/Legacy Boot" option.

Disable Secure Boot: Go to the "Boot" tab and disable the Secure Boot option to see if this allows the SSD to be detected.

Reset BIOS settings:
In the BIOS, look for an option like Load Defaults, Restore Defaults, or Load Optimized Defaults (usually accessible with the F9 key).

Save and restart (F10 to save and exit).
Check if the devices (SSD/HDD) appear in the Boot tab or in a section like "SATA Information." If the SSD does not appear, move on to the next step.

Check SSD detection:

You indicate that the SSD works, but it’s possible that the BIOS does not detect it properly. Check in the BIOS if the SSD is listed in the SATA devices.

If the SSD does not appear, open the bottom cover of the laptop (make sure to disconnect the power and battery beforehand) and check that the SSD connections are secure (cables or M.2 connector properly inserted).

Test the SSD on another PC to confirm that it is functional and that the operating system is intact.

Have you tried booting from a bootable USB drive?

The problem is solved.

After disassembling and reassembling the SSD, the PC is working.

Could be a faulty connection.

We'll see over the long term...

Thanks again, Bruno

Hello Bruno

Indeed, the SSD does not appear in the BIOS under the BOOT section.

I tried it via a USB adapter and it works.

I disabled secure boot and reset the BIOS to default.

I attempted a repair with a bootable USB drive but nothing works.

Test the 2.5" HDD:
You mention a 2.5" backup HDD. Check if it is detected in the BIOS (in the SATA Information or Boot section).

If the HDD is detected, try changing the boot order to boot from it (if an operating system is installed). This might temporarily bypass the issue.

If neither the SSD nor the HDD are detected, this reinforces the hypothesis of a problem with the SATA controller or the motherboard.

Check the SATA settings in the BIOS:
In the BIOS, look for an option like SATA Mode or SATA Configuration. Make sure it's set to AHCI (not RAID or IDE, unless the system has been specifically configured for RAID).

If the SSD is M.2 SATA, check that the M.2 port is enabled in the BIOS settings (some BIOS allow disabling M.2 ports).

The fact that the SSD works via a USB adapter but is not detected in the BIOS strongly suggests a problem with the SATA controller or the M.2 port on the motherboard. This could be due to:
A poorly inserted or damaged connector.

A failure of the M.2 port or the SATA controller.

A corruption or incompatibility of the BIOS.
